This is probably Edwin's birth from Lancashire BMD, in which case he was only 11 in 1861: Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1850 Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference BEECH Edwin Salford Greengate Salford GRE/38/32 Kate. |

The family Helen found are definitely the right ones, so there is also a son Edwin born about 1847-48 in 'Manchester', presumably Salford. So the couple you found in 1851 are unlikely to be them, Alter, because there is no Edwin. Also William is still a 'Moulder of Iron' in 1861. Thanks anyway. I'm now hunting for Edwin on the other censuses! Kate. |

Helen, you are a star! That Paddington couple has to be them. Now why didn't I think of looking for a William born in Ctockport with a son named Hue?! I can understand why searching for people born in Salford didn't do the trick now I know they were down in London and gave Manchester as their birthplace. I will have a look at the image tomorrow and see if I can work out what they were doing down there. Anyway, thanks a milllion. I still think that marriage I found will be the right one, though. Alter - I haven't come across a George (yet). What year did you find them in? If it was not 1861, please give me a bit more info so that I can have a look and see if it could be them. Kate. |

Hi Kate, i have found a marriage for William Beech and Mary Ann Buckley. Oct/Nov/Dec quarter 1846 ,Nantwich Cheshire Volume 19 Page 155. Don't know if this is the right one as it would make them very young when they married. Best Wishes Helen. |

Kate there is a William Beech on 1861 census Paddington Middlesex. William is married to Mary Ann and they have two children , Edwin born 1848 and Hugh born 1856. William states he was born in Stockport Cheshire and Mary Ann born Manchester., both children were born in Manchester. Best Wishes Helen |

I'm guessing that this is their marriage: 1849 William Beech and Mary A. Nadin Salford (Eccles Parish St. Mary's) which I found on Lancashire BMD Possibly Mary Ann was a bit older than the 1881 suggests, as she is 60 in 1891, and if she was really born in 1833 she would have been a bit young to get married in 1849. But I can't find a Mary Ann Nadin on the 1841 either. Oh well, they aren't ancestors of my partner's, just a side-branch, so it doesn't really matter. Kate. |

Georgina, no that isn't him, it looks as though he moved to Salford and married there and had his children there, so why I can't find him in Salford I don't know! Linda, you're right, they are a pain. I'm afraid James isn't one of ours either as far as I know. Kate. |

Just to add to my own thread, Hugh's birth is on Lancashire BMD for 1856 at Salford, and the marriage could be the one on Lancashire BMD for 1849 William Beech and Mary A. Nadin also at Salford (Eccles Parish St. Mary's), in which case they should be married on the 1851. |

Okay, I have them on the 1881 as brother and sister-in-law to Thomas Cotterill at 71 Royds St., Accrington, Lancashire (actually they were brother and sister-in-law to Thomas's wife Hannah) William Beach Brother Married 49 Iron Moulder Lancs Stockport Mary Ann do Sister in law Mar 47 Lancs Salford and in 1891 I have Mary Ann, presumably, at 17 Pendle Street, Accrington, Lancashire: Hugh Beech Head M 35 Iron Moulder Lancs Salford .... Mary A. do Mother Widow 60 do Salford But I can't find William or Mary Ann on any other census! He isn't even with his father and siblings on the 1841. I don't know Mary Ann's maiden name yet either. I have Hugh on the 1881 but not found him in 1871 or 1861, though you would think that should be easy. Kate. |

The 1841 on ancestry has finally helped me to sort out my partner's BEECH ancestors and rellies from Stockport, Cheshire (that being one of the few counties I hadn't already had access to an index for) But one of them is still puzzling me. Details will follow... but basically if anybody can find William Beech or Beach (often mistranscribed as Buck) born about 1831-2 Stockport Cheshire and married to Mary Ann born about 1833-4 Salford Lancashire on any census before 1881, you will be a star! Mary Ann is a widow on 1891, so don't bother with that one. Kate. |
