Heather Report 16 May 2006 08:40

Gerri, this is the title of Vals thread A BIG help needed please FTM how do I split files ??? I was also going to bed when I added the last message - too knackered to look for it a second time, thats why I just said its originated by Val. If you want to find topics originated by someone you can click on topic originator at the top of the page and then go to a particular name and trawl what they have left. If anyone wants to find a thread they can also enter all or part of a likely title in the search box at the top of the page.

Heather, You look like you know what you are talking about a few questions please. I have my information on trees on PAF I am keen to get the family tree maker. Can you tell me in easy to understand instructions how I get my info on tree maker. Also if I was to still use paf do you just keep using a gedcome to put it on family tree maker to update. A bit nervy at doing this change as I don't want to do wrong thoing and loose all my information. Sue.....

Heather

Heather Report 23 May 2006 16:43

If you have moved your info back and forwards between PAF and GR then you know how to get your info onto FTM! Same thing, make a gedcom and import it on to the FTM program which you put on your puter. Well, I think a lot of us are scared of losing the info thats why we chose a program that you can put on a cd, on the internet - so we have it at least 3 places.

Derrr!! where is this websearch facility? please in werds ov wun sybilil please Bob

Heather

Heather Report 23 May 2006 20:07

Bob, if you open your program on the page of the individual you are interested in go down past their name and birth etc details - there are a row of icons with spouse, scrap book etc and you will see the last icon which says Web search resources. Click on that and it will search for a match for you. When the search comes up you can edit down the results by using the facilities at the top right hand of the page.

Mo in London Report 23 May 2006 20:18

Open family tree maker. Find an individual Under death place there are little boxes saying edit spouse scrapbook, web search resources Click on that box (web search resources), and it will open up a search on the person you are looking at.

Borobabs

Borobabs Report 23 May 2006 23:49

Marie a up-grade means you will have to do a back up 1st really but then all your information will be in the new format;; apparently they use different format for the 2006 so I just backed up onto a disc ;; that is only in case there is any problems, which i didn't have then you do the up-grade;;; Babs

Heather

Heather Report 24 May 2006 07:34

Marie, you can upgrade - go to the my-history website and it tells you the cost of upgrades. I cant remember how much it was but if you dont have an ancestry sub may be worth you just buying a new program and getting 3 months ancestry sub free from play*com for under £30.
