I just found an 1841 rellie, and his image is in colour on Ancestry.....Wish they were all like this :o(.........If you want to see, he is transcibed as ''Daved Whiteman, b 1767 living at Woburn, Beds''.......Happy Hunting - Merry xx |

I've had one or two in colour too, I wonder if that's what they meant when they say that some images have been enhanced to aid readability. Shame they couldn't do it with the rest! |

Looks like they have a fixed level camera and they just shoot the image, turn the page, shoot the image again etc. A lot faster than open scanner, slide page in, close scanner lid, scan copy... wait for it to scan... wait some more for it to scan... wait a little more for it to scan... then take book out, turn page, and go again. I dont know why but the colour version makes it all seem more historic. |

OOps I have just had a look at your image and I was searching for a relly for someone on my thread the other day and their relly was on a page just like it ...I told them I thought it had been smoke damaged oooppsss lol Think its time I went Opticians again lmao Oh well you learn something new every day lol Lesley :~) |

There's something on the BBC website about it. Apparently the images on microfilm were of such poor quality that Ancestry had to send a team to the NA to work from the originals. Some 6% of the 1841 census has been imaged this way. Every day's a school day! Pete |

You're so lucky. The village I need to look at has such bad images that it looks like blank pages. What a disappointment! Sue. |

Sue You are not alone in having poor images....The 1841 census returns were 'mostly' done in pencil....Alot of my 'need to know' are partly/totally unreadable :( Chris |
