Hi Elaine I have found FTM really easy to use without a manual, it does have a help section on it, so you dont really need the manual. I started off by importing from genes onto FTM and then built my FTM up from there, and then put the gedcom back on Genes. The only frustrating thing I find is when I export back to Genes and then if I want to change something on Genes manually it asks me which country they are (see Transfer of data form FTM to Genes as a gedcom thread). |

I've also been going through all the different options and couldn't make up my mind between Family Historian v3 and FTM deluxe edition, have read all your messages and will probably go for FTM deluxe ,only so that I can have a printed manual to refer to ,I'm better if I have it in front of me to read, and again I am already subscribing to ancestry so that part will be no use to me ,has anybody got any comments about Fam Historian v3 as I don't think anybody has mentioned it,do I take it it's not so good thanks Barbara |

Its a long time since I did mine but I think I uploaded from GR but then went through everything manually, checking as on GR you dont have the same source references etc. No where for your images of censuses and stuff. Its up to you really, depends on just how much you have already got on GR I guess. |

I have just orderered ftm. How did you start using it. Did you upload the gedcom from here or did you start from scratch? Any tips appreciated for a novice. |

I would go for one with a manual...although you can get it separately. Depends on how good you are at technology!!! XX |

Just beware with some of the so-called offers. The actual software FTM 2006 is the same, whatever package you buy. Don't be tempted by offers that give you free CD's containing information as there is no guarantee they will be of use. The Ancestry offer may be worth it if you are not already subscribing. I have always bought from TWR Computing and have never had any problems. |

There isnt a lot of difference between 05 and 06 as far as I can see (I upgraded from 05 to 06). Be careful that you dont just buy an upgrade rather than a full program. Go to the my-history website its in uk and there is a comparison chart there for this program. Dont buy the trial £9 quid one - it doesnt have all the standard features. |

Glen says his is the 2005 version. Is there much difference? I have seen the 2006 uk one for about £25 but it says program only (no discs and no manual). Is FTM easy to use if you don't have a manual/tutorial? Thanks Elaine |

I got mine from My History, like Chrispy I purchased the deluxe package, but there really is no advantage to that. I love using it and have found it so easy. |

Elaine, if you look on my Familytree thread up a bit above this - Glen found the standard package for less than £20 including 90 days free ancestry access from S and N Genealogy. Bargain or what. Another fiver slipped into me knicker leg. |

I got mine from TWR Computing but I'd go for where it's cheapest! It might also be masquerading under the title of 'Who Do You Think You Are' - PC World were marketing it at a special price under this title. It's a brilliant piece of software; lots of people on GR use it. Mandy |

Elaine Just ordered mine from Amazon. It came post free exactly when they said it would. I bought the 2006 deluxe edition. Think I should have gone for the straightforward one as all I have extra is a couple of fairly useless data cds. Managed to import all my data from Rootsmagic...but still getting used to it. Chris |
