I think that when Ed sees the number of responses to this thread and the strength of peoples feelings, he will realise that he has just shot himself in the foot!!! Cant imagine too many people putting themselves out to help with his next dilemma!! Fuzzy x

A lot of the original point in the topic header has been changed. You only have to read the first reply to see that a large part refers to something that is now missing. Presumably the renewal went through anyhow despite the reservations that Ed had. Glen

Ed Could you please rewrite the sentences at the beginning of your thread, putting all your apostrophies in the correct places, and leaving out the commas where there should not be any commas. It might then be more legible. I do think that everybody on this Tips Board works very hard for their fellow genealogists. You request information on all sorts of issues and people give up a lot of their time, energy and expertise to obtaining information for you for free. Don't knock it. (Note the place of the apostrophe in DON'T!!) If I had written don,t that wouuld have been called a comma and would have been incorrect! Janet

Well, (comma!) I think we are all familiar with Ed's research lines now and will keep well clear of any similar look up requests in future - no matter what the member's (apostrophe!) name may be. RIP

poor ed, i think you have to feel sorry for someone who cant enjoy a laugh, i have had help from this board and have learned a lot by reading other peoples questions , in fact this is the only board i read now , as its like belonging to a club , i particularly liked , and laughed at the offer of swapping ag labs, i havent got any at the moment mine are dock labs lol carry on laughing EILEEN

Oh Ed.....see what youv'e done now! There are many of us on here that couldn't have started our family tree with out help from others on this site. The Tips Board is a mine of useful information for us all to share. So I don't give a toss either when the threads 'digress'. It's all good fun and comes at NO EXTRA CHARGE either. Still, I must be a sad git too for reading all these messages .....but sometimes that's what we all need... a bit of humour...so lighten up!

But Ed isn't speaking to us, Ann!!!! He only returns occasionally, and then only ''scans a handful of replies'' in order to make a revised (or in this case, non-revised) assessment of how we are doing! Merry

Why are you so bothered? If you don't like it, then don't come on the boards - nobody is forcing you to, and you cannot say that you can ONLY give tips on this board. Some threads help people, for example, Merry's thread on naming paterns, may not be seen as a TIP, but are very helpful in looking at trends and which names were common. Others such as the green cone threads are TIPS, they just aren't tips on famnily research.

My attitude has always been - The members on here (who pay for the privilege of being a member) offer FREE help and advice to other people. If you are ASKING for FREE help and advice, then you dont really have any right to dictate the manner in which this is presented to you. If you want everything to be done in a brisk and formal way, well, turn off your computer, go the the CRO or whatever, find the info yourself and then pay for it, even if its only 10p for a photocopy. I guarantee that you wont get any frivolous or off topic interaction with the staff for your 10p. OC

Reading this board always cheers me up, and if it hadn't been for Snowdrop I may have found a couple more ancestors instead of messing about with symbols. MotherHen

Edwin, If you are making the occasional visit to the site,and not participating on a regular basis aswell as not sharing your tree with the site (which was developed by people on this site helping you) ,your comments are a bit rich. I , personally have about 5 threads that need to be nudged up for people to see the advice - this is a fast turnover board....so its hit and miss what you see at any given time,and remember,that page one is a mere drop in the ocean,there are literally hundreds of threads tucked away with good advice in the gr corridors. Having said all that I am not entirely convinced you are not just pushing peoples buttons for a bit of sport.....of the fishing variety. Chris

hiya'll, I have read the replies, and have come to a decision, If we stop replying to this thread (says she) then it will dissapear of the page, therefore enabling people who like to help, to help with tips etc... I too use this board as well as records, dont see the problem with light banter, as long as the job gets done, what's the problem??? Julie

Carolanne The glory of this board is that usually there is someone who will know how to help you if you have Scottish, Irish, Italian, NZ or whatever roots. If you specify in your query which country's records you wish to search, then people can suggest websites, forums etc. Just ask.

back in the land of the living......quite frustrating watching threads where i can help,and ended up asking others to post for me,.......got board flapping about it cyberspace,but at least I was out of trouble lol.........Im up for a hardcore research thread today.....:~)
