I have/did have 22 great-aunts and -uncles, of whom I've only really known four but have met a few others on occasions. |

I had 16 great aunts/uncles (plus 2 that died young) but I only met two of them. |

Bren, if you come up to Norwich shortly I have a HP 840c printer going spare plus ink - just bought myself a scanner/copier/printer - which I must say was a bargain - only just over £50 and its brill. |

Most of Dad's lot seem to have died in the 1920s and, apart from Aunt Beat and Aunty Polly, I only remember an aunt with a knitted pudding basin hat pulled well over her ears and just two teeth in her head who scared me rigid. Mum's mum was the eldest of her family, so I met most of them and the widow of one great uncle is still alive. |

Merry, as I once worked out that I had 56 great aunts and uncles (including spouses) I try not to think how many references I could acquire if I were serious about the hobby! Mercifully, lots of them were packed off to Australia or Canada, probably because they all were breeding like rabbits. |

Nell, I did my own poor best to mess with stats by appearing twice on the 1981 and 1991 censuses. They changed the rules in 2001, otherwise I'd have kept up the tradition. |

Blimey, Merry! I know that you're a bit younger than me, but all the women in your tree must have been child brides. |

People who should be on the census and people I've actually found are two different figures!!! Apart from the elusive William Gray who managed to avoid being at home in 1841 and 1851 and refused to be found anywhere before dying in 1858 - purely to avoid having to hide in 1861, I suspect, I also have William's son John, my gt grandfather, who cleverly manages to be in 2 places at once in 1871! nell |

Lol, Heather! It has taken an entire afternoon to sort those stats out. I could swear that when I just had PAF on DOS, I could press a button and it would churn out the figures for me. This is what comes of inheriting my father's legendary meanness. If I bought a halfway decent program (or even a printer!) I'm sure could do the job in a flash. |

Blimey Bren, every thought of starring in the Rain Man? Could you just do the stats on my direct ancestors for me when you get a mo!!! |

I've been back to the tree, to work out how many ancestors should appear on the censuses. 1841 - 69 ancestors 1851 - 57 ancestors 1861 - 49 ancestors 1871 - 42 ancestors 1881 - 33 ancestors 1891 - 26 ancestors 1901 - 19 ancestors So potentially 295 images, though in reality nearer 100. Within this, only one person appears to have been omitted. After 1901, the figures will be: 1911 - 16 ancestors 1921 - 13 ancestors 1951 - 5 ancestors To my surprise, only 5 ancestors are on all seven published censuses. To my grief, an awful lot of ancestors died before 1851. |
