I ordered a couple of certs on April 9th and they still aren't here - the suspense is killing me!!! I know the GRO has had problems with the huge volume of certs ordered over the last few months but a month is a long time to wait - should I chase them up or wait a little longer?!! Helen x

8 months Merry?! I was wanting to order my grandfathers record but I'm not the next of kin. Just hope I have better luck with a divorce record next week at TNA.

Mine haven't come yet, but I only ordered them a fortnight or so ago. If the haven't come by the end of next week I might start getting a bit annoyed though.

At times of high demand it is always worth looking if the office local to the event can supply certificates. Most local offices will turn an order around in less than a week, some the following day. But you have to use the office local to the event. You can also ask (and request in most cases) for a scan of the original image. In that instance you will see a scanned copy of your rellies signature or mark. Seasrch for the thread 'local registry offices...copy or handwritten please add' There are quite a few listed and more wouldn't hurt. Glen

average seems to be 3 weeks for GRO at the moment. Merry, I ordered army records witha 6-8 month wait quoted but they arrived in 3 weeks :-) that was a nice suprise.

Ooooooooh Ang!!! How can I type with my fingers tightly crossed??????? LOL - Hope granddad's army record comes that quickly! When my father-in-law applied for his own service record (when he was aged 87), my husband phoned the MoD to say if they didn't hurry up, my father-in-law might be dead before the record arrived. They still took 13 months! Merry

I wasn't given a despatch date, not sure why. I haven't (yet) been told they can't locate any so fingers crossed that my hunches have paid off and when the info comes it will actually be what I was hoping for... whenever it does come.

I was lead to believe they are working on another series of WDYTYA but not sure how true this is, or when its coming out, guess any certs would be better ordered now for next year!

Gill, This is the address of the site which will tell you about getting army records:- http://www.army.mod.uk/contacts/divisions/records.htm Helen, As for certificates from the GRO, I ordered one on 16th April, and the despatch date is 10th May. I rang this morning to see if they were still behind with orders and there is a message on their phone saying there will still be delays up to the end of May, so I'm not holding my breath that the certificate will be sent out on the 10th.
