I have a quandry and it's driving me bonkers! The Madeley's of Shropshire would appear to be a force to be reckoned with????? My Great g, grandfather was one WILIIAM MADELEY Born 1820 Welshampton, Shropshire. He married Sarah Elizabeth Reeves in 1847 and they had 5 daughters Jane 1848, Elizabeth 1850 Mary 1852 Sarah Ann 1854 and Margaret Price Madeley 1856. In trying to distinguish WHO Williams parents were, I am puzzled as there appears to be so many branches of this family, all Farmers..........and there is a possiblity of a mistranscribed Birth year for William.........? On IGI He is noted as being born in 1820 which would be the obvious age............however, there is also a record of birth for 1830? ten years later. There is also the question of his parents? One set John Madeley and Elizabeth Price another set William Madeley and Alice ? As I cannot get around to investigate Parish registers etc, I am trying to get my hands on the BIVRI on ebay............... In the meantime however, If any kind person, who can spare the time, would care to look at this with fresh eyes and give me the benefit of their conclusions, I would be very greatful indeed.......as, I am uncertain as to whether I will ever figure this out, my brain being a lot less agile these days. I think the first question is - the records you found on the IGI were they extracted or submitted? If submitted be very wary. Secondly, have you found them on any census? You appear to have because you have the kids births. SO, you have the marriage, get the reference and send for the marriage certificate and then you will get the fathers' names for definite. Do you have the reference and do you know how to purchase the certificate from GRO online for £7 (only use the official GRO site). Oh, a tip, if you have a lot of text to enter when you start a thread just put see below in the first box and then add reply so that you can use paragraphing. |

Yes Heather, I have them on the census' and the info on IGI was submitted. I am being wary about this because of the ten year age difference for William. The problem is that the Madeley's were very abundant in and around Hanmer, in Flintshire............there appears to be many branches to the family...........all with more or less the same childrens names............What a headache! Anne, Yes, your right, that was my own train of thought too, but I had to be sure............... and Heather, your a life saver, I do have their marriage cert and your perfectly right, his father's name was John.........so it has to be the Price/Madeley family after all................ All it needed was a few new sets of eyes, as I have been going around and around with this for so long, I have overlooked the obvious pointers................I love you all Kiss, Kiss............lol Brilliant!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes you just cant see the wood for the trees, can you. I do the same, then someone points out something so damn obvious. Just lets all be grateful we have one another on here to do that. |

Gloria............ You are on the right track too............I originally had William with this family..........but was unsure, as they appeared to be so much more affluent...........and I was loathe to risk claiming them as my ancestors, just in case. I know mum always used to say, that that was the branch of the family, where all the money came from LOL! Still, none of it came our way................!!!!!!!!! I do feel a little more convinced now however, Thankyou all so much...... Jen |
