Not THAT common, but there are 88 Almina's on 1901 census, so it DOES exist. Seem to be mainly from Lincolnshire + Yorkshire. ?? Dea x |

Thank You. Dea, could you look for a Almina Marian for me please. I have been searching all evening on 1837online for a marriage between my grandfather and Almina Marian. She died a Hone but can find no marriage. I have no idea of her maiden name. Going to cross reference all Albert Hone's I have found to see if perhaps he has been mistranscribed in some way. 1837online has locked up at the moment, think as I have been on there for ages!!!! Absolutely no idea where she would come from. Died in Surrey W. I think. Thanks so much. This is the first lead I have had in ages re my grandfather. So interesting but so frustating too!!!!!! |

Dea, thanks but just looked at reference again. Think she was born around 1903 so that lets that one out. Died in 1977. So frustrating as just found that she lived with my grandfather. He left home in 1931 leaving my nan and 5 children. I discovered a couple of years ago that he died in Surrey with no headstone. Felt so sad as he had no one but have today had confirmation that he was living with this lady Almina Marian Hone. I am prepared to sift through whatever I have to to find out but don't know where to start. I have gone from 1931 on 1837online and am up to 1955 but not sure if my computer overheating or 1837online not working properly tonight. Will keep searching, then cross reference with all Alberts. Can't search for children as I don't know her maiden name. Any suggestion gratefully appreciated. Thanks for much for help. Pam. |

Wow Jess, where did you find this one? I have spent £20 tonight searching through 1837online. When I cross referenced a name there is no sign of any marriage to a Hone. So frustrating, I have emailed them. I have a feeling that they didn't marry. I have to wait for her Death Certificate to come thru. Any idea how to find out if any children born to this couple. Suppose without a maiden name not a hope (but now I have one). Odd thing is, grandfather died in 1973 with no headstone on his grave. She died in 1977 in different part of Surrey. I am so confused. Thank you so much for your help. Pam. |

Pamela, In response to your comment that you have spent 20 pounds on 1837 - did you know that the complete images of BMDs are available FREE on Ancestry. http://www.ancestry(.)co(.)uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx remove brackets |

Elaine, Yes I know but it takes so long now they have changed format. Last night I searched each quarter from 1931 to 1977 which took quite a while but was so much easier than the Ancestry way. When I put in initial on Ancestry it brings up page 1. It takes forever just to find correct page. Is there another way do you know? Thanks for advice though. I may have to use Ancestry now as I am now going to look for a birth between them. Could probably get year's subscription on Ancestry for what it is costing me. Perhaps I should do that. Been thinking about it for ages but have not been hunting for a while. |

hi Pamela, there was a girl in one of my high school classes whose sisters name was Almina. The girls were Australian born, but both of their parents were Turkish. Rebs |

Pamela, there was a fault with Ancestry a week or two ago whereby you had to select the initial and then trawl through the pages to find the name you were looking for - but it was a fault and only lasted a couple of days. Go to the website I gave you, select - search marriage index images enter the name and year (I tend to put one year in at a time as I find it less confusing!) -- and up pops your 4 quarters - on the right page (not page 1). When you are viewing the images there is an icon for OPTIONS - click on this and select standard quality images rather than high quality - pages will then load a bit quicker. |

Elaine, Just tried and brilliant thanks. Spent 2 whole weekends a few weeks ago looking on Ancestry free bmd and found very helpful. Gave up when changed format. Will probably spend another 2 weekends looking now! Thanks again. Pam. |
