Hello, I have been transcribing for about 2 years now. I am in Chris M's syndicate...... We are transcrbing death's from 1860 ....At least then they didn't put ages on them. The last ones we did had ages with them, Oh, so many little children and babies.... It did make it sad..... Hope everyone has a good day, Mea. |

Just to say that you are not allowed to use the images of BMD indexes from any other site to transcribe for FreeBMD unless you have been told by that site or by FreeBMD that it is allowed. You can request a replacement scan, or go and look at the microfiches or microfilms at a record office (if the record office doesn't mind). Kate. |

Hi, I'm not transcribing, I'm checking for John Mellors. You just check ones that have already been transcribed, for mistakes. Doing 4th Qtr, 1871 Births at the moment. Find it rewarding and something to do in spare time. Jean |

Good Morning everybody and especially those in the Jeff Coleman syndicate. I am lucky enough to live fairly close to the FRC and because of that I used to transcribe handwritten 1844 Births. The scans were appalling but I could check anything I couldn't read on my visits. I now check anything I can't read on the bmd's on Ancestry. Much easier and quicker. Happy transcribing. Jean x. |

Helen The one I have applied to do is typed copies of 1907 births, anyone else wanting to volunteer I recommend the recordsmiths. These are the ones I mailed and got a reply almost immediately Linda |

Hi I'm with Jeff Coleman's syndicate as well, although I've just asked to go on pause for the time being due to serious health problems. Need some time out for the moment. Jeff is an excellent co-ordinator though. Anybody joining him will have loads of support. Pauline xx |

I used to do it a couple of years ago but after a few months I found it a bit tedious and gave up. The fact that I was transcribing 1841 deaths from bad copies of hand written scans was the main problem. I always ended up going to the 1837 site and paying for a better copy of each sheet I needed so it was costing me to do it. I think I would do it again if I could be sure I was copying from typewritten sheets. It did make me feel I was putting something back in, to compensate for all the help I got on here and other sites. |

Hi Maureen, I've noticed that too, I think twins/siblings may choose to marry on the same day - same or following page numbers (makes sense when you gather family around to do 2 marriages in one go - cheaper too!) Sarah :-) |

I joined a week ago, I am doing Marriages from a typewritten list, so far so good, its easier than I thought it would be to do and very interesting. In fact I find same surnames, same area registered and I keep thinking they must be twins, then I realise I am doing marriages!! |

I used to do it but had to stop as I no longer had the time and I felt bad about them waiting for the pages from me. It's great that so many people want to do it and at the end of the day, it helps us all. Well done all of you that do it. |

Linda, Join the club! well done!! -don't be put off that it takes you ages to do a page - that's the whole reason it's such a massive project & they need all the help they can get. Each page is one less to be done... Sarah :-) |

Laura, if you look at the information on the FreeBMD website about how to become a transcriber it will tell you the requirements for each syndicate. Some are for people in a particular place and some not. Kate. |
