Lynn Report 9 Jul 2006 11:19

I would really love to visit Kew, so many things to look at and the idea of going with experienced people really appeals, unfortunately, distance and 2 young children prevents me from going. Have a great time anyway! Lynn : - )

I'm still coming Brenda. Collecting a host of things I want to look at but will have to cut the list down. Can I ask a question you might know? I know there are lots of ships logs and lists there. What about training ships? Would the logs be at Kew or elsewhere? *Best wishes* Sharon

Sorry to take such a long time to return to this thread. Work and family commitments getting in the way of serious GR time! Deb and Lyla, it'll be lovely to meet both of you. Sylvia and Sharon, glad you can both make the 5th Lynn and Mary, it has only been since I've joined these boards that I've appreciated how very lucky I am to live relatively close to Kew and all the other London repositories.

Joy There will be a second trip on 19th if you can't make the 5th. And if the journey is complicated, so you can't make Kew by 9.30 , that's fine, so long as you let me know when you reckon to arrive I can be on the lookout for you. Rod Glad you can make it.

Thanks to Glen for the nudge on this thread. Further to my own entry can I please be very cheeky??? as I stand no chance of getting near Kew till the New year. Whilst there could somebody please have a look at the following for me. WO23 and/or WO116. The first covers long service army pensions 1702 to 1933 the other disablement pensions 1715 to 1913. I am looking to find the Regiment and discharge date of Henry Clifton born about 1803 Kensworth Herts. Shown as a Pensioner Her Majestys Army on the 1881 census aged 78. Apparently this info will allow me to then track his army service. Thankyou in anticipation.

Hi Perrenmaid I'm on the verge of going to bed, otherwise I'd check the research guides out tonight, but it looks as if your search might take a very long time if you don't know either discharge date or regiment. Browsing W0 23, this is a whole class, and it looks as if it might be a minimum of ten records to be checked and I can't tell whether they are completely indexed. Do you have any other information to narrow the search?

Hi, I don't I'm afraid. The file numbers have come from a very helpful reply to an email I sent to Chelsea Pensioners Hospital. If they appear to be a long search Do not worry, I will have to kerb my impatience and wait till I can go myself. I thought maybe if they were alphabetical or by year it would not take too long. I am off to bed myself in a minute so will check back tomorrow. It may not be until late evening though. Thankyou for your reply.
