I am currently trying to find Catherine before her marriage. Have tried Fielding and Fielden but not found the right family so far. Trouble is, with the census having her down as born in Gibraltar and Malta as a British Subject, I may not find her!!! I guess I could get another certificate but if that is also Fielden, then I am still none the wiser but 7 quid poorer!!! |

It sounds very possible. Was the husband called John Smith or something less common? Were the couple married after 1851 and before 1901? if they were then can you find the bride before her marriage? How was her name spelled then? UPDATE! We crossed......what about getting a birth cert for another of their children? Merry |

Thanks for replies. The marriage I was after was between Robert Knowles born 1840 in Lancashire (either Skerton or Accrington - census varies!) and Catherine Fielding born c1841. Catherine is a bit more difficult as the census have her down as born in Gibralter, Malta as British Subject and Woolwich!!!! First child was born in Blackburn Lancashire in 1860 so I searched all around there but can only find the marriage between Robert Knowles and Catherine Fielden - found it on Lancashirebmd. It's just the fact that the birth cert for one of the kids says formerly Fielding and not Fielden that is throwing me and making me a bit hesitant. I don't want to go barking up the wrong tree!! Thanks for any help you can give me. |

Have got a birth cert with Mother fas 'formerly Fielding' but can only find marriage with maiden name FieldEN - year would be right for first child, also town and hubby's name. Would you accept it as the right one? Opinions pls. |
