would be grateful for any help...George Boxall 'marries' Emily Baker, first child born in lambeth in 1863 (not that that means much, have learnt they so not strait laced these victorians!) Been looking for this for weeks with no luck! Fuzzy x |

Cor, theres a lot of Boxalls in Lambeth area, isnt there! Did you see this one - with bride missing - worth a quick look to see if she turns up same time on bmd index? Freebmd is down at mo - guess you have checked there? Hi heather, Yes there are alot of Boxalls!!! How I pray for unusual names!!! Already checked the BMD Emily was born in Lambeth and George in Childenfold Surrey, checked that area too!! Beginning to think they didn't marry.....We know how common it was to marry years later dont we?!! so I looked at the complete images ten years on.....Nothing!!! |

1. Do you know where George and Emily were born? 2. Are they always called George & Emily on every scrap of documentation? 3. Have you looked at the actual images, quarter by Quarter on Ancestry? 4. Could they write? Possibilities: 1. Names misspelt 2. Forenames transposed 3. Emily was a widow 4. They married much later or earlier than you supposed 5. They didn't marry |

Hi Phoenix, I have the birth cert of one of their children and they are George and Emily on that. also the Marriage cert of their son and he is George on that. Have checked both areas where they were born. Have looked at the complete images on ancestry, and checked 10 years after the first child was born. am beginning to think they didn't marry!! |

It may be though he was known as George he has another first name? Ditto Emily. Have you got them in the 1861? |

hi Heather, No I have them in the 1871, I found an Emily Baker born in 1839 in Lambeth at home in the 1861, but I dont know if that is her, and seeing as the first child was born in 1863 I think that they were probably at home in the 1861, but without their fathers names it makes them difficult to trace......hope all that makes sense!! What year of birth does he have? Do you know his parents names? |

hi Heather, On the 1871 census RG10/657 F43 P42 (in case you want a lookie) he is down as 1840 and Emily 1839, I dont know either of their parents names, that is why I am desperate for the marriage cert, so that I can find them at home. fairly sure I have emily, but you cant be sure without a cert to back you up! |

Can't find CHILDENFOLD. Suspect it should be CHIDDINGFOLD near Haslemere in Surrey. Jim |

Hi Jim, Image definately says Childenfold, but you right I cant find that either!! You could be onto something with the Haslemere area, will see if i can find him at home in 1861. Emily Boxall doesn't exist in 1861, so they definately got together after 1861. as I say I am pretty sure I have her at home in 1861. |

Interestingly there are a pair of bros in Lodgings in Surrey I think 1871 - William and George Boxall with same birth place as your bloke. Cant see him in 61 with that birthplace - dont know Surrey well enough for the distances involved. I was hoping to find a dad possibly Henry as thats what he named eldest boy. Theres also a couple of possibles who are soldiers and sailors. Then theres this guy with an h in the name visiting mates with mum in Southwark (Lambeth area) View Record George Boxhall abt 1838 Guilford, Surrey, England Visitor Southwark St George Surrey View Record Sarah Boxhall abt 1810 Guilford, Surrey, England Visitor Southwark St George Surrey |

Wow that is a coincidence Heather!! My george is definately 'married' and with Emily in the 1871, but i wonder who these blokes are, coming from the same place....how odd! |

Hi Pippa, I am pretty sure that this is my Emily at home, but without her marriage cert to tell me who her dad is how can I be sure? As I said earlier in the thread i am fairly certain, but I do like to be 100% Fuzzy x |
