Dea this maybe a little confusing. When Myra was born (my Grandma) she got adopted by her grandma so was brought up to believe that her birth mother was her sister. I have been given names of brothers and sisters but as you can understand i now don't know if they are brothers and sisters as they could be aunts and uncles. They are Clifford, Everett, Dudley, Eldred, Beryl, Avis (could this be her birth mother?) Esmie Enid (could this be her birth mother?) I know that when i spoke to my grandma she said that her mother was called Curtis so i am assuming that her mother (not sure which) one married a Curtis. I have the details of the Curtis family there reference for the 1901 census is RG12/1827 vessel 1 folio 4 page 2 they are misprinted on there as Curlis. Would this be of any help. Why oh why did i start to do this side of the tree. Thankyou for all your help. Jen

Varker is definitely a middle name here - There are quite a few with the Varker surname in Cornwall - I would suggest that this is either her father's surname, or at least a surname handed down from within the family, and used as a middle name - A very common habit in the past.!! It is certainly worth exploring - what info do you have on Myra.? Dea x P.S. - If you look at Myra's birth reg it says Myra P V Vincent

But Jennie - she has 2 middle names doesn't she? - The second one beginning with a 'V' - possibly Varker ?? This could be a possible link to parentage? Am I seeing things? Dea x

Jennie, not sure if you have already found this out but the birth certificate will not tell you the mother's age. Kate.

Another place to go for help in reading the certifactes is your local archives centre, which may be based in a library, they are very helpful.

If you can't read the certificate, phone the GRO and ask them to help. They are very helpful, and will either try to do a better photocopy, or hand write the certificate for you. Kath. x

Jen There is an Enid Vincent from cornwall on Ancestry who may match but she would have been a teenager when Myra appeared - although that may be the mystery you are unravelling. Jen

Jen - this is very blurred isnt it! At a guess I would say the first name is Enid but dont put your money on it. I can see she was a worker in a knitting factory but what a shame the address is not specific. I dont know the area - it is something Green and you may be right with fiddlers. Sorry I cant be any more help - i will try and fiddle with the seetings to see if i can get a more clearer picture but that wont be till later on today good luck jenx maybe dea will have more luck

Hi Jen i have the certificat ein front of me. Not only was my grandma a different surname at birth but what she has told me her mother is called is a lie. There is a big secret this side of the family and it looks like i am starting to unveil it. It has the exact date of birth and place and her 1st and middle name are correct. I think her mothers name is Iris, Eris Pauline Vincent living ??Fiddlis Green Newlyn Cornwall. The area i am struggling to read is her mothers name. I am searching on the census and BMD to see if i can find her but not come up with anything. Myra was born 31st March 1928. Does this help. If you like (not being rude) i can email the certificate. Many thanks Jen
