I take it that you have searched the IGI records on the LDS site too? 4 births for Casserly Co. Dublin and 264 records for Haughton Co. Dublin.

1851 Dublin City census:

MI Casserly, 7 Boyne St,
Dist:St Mary's, Southside

Peter Casserly, 16 Stafford St, St Mary's

There were 21 hits for Haughton:

Arthur, Barcroft, Benjamin, Catherine Anne, Eliza
2 x George, Henry, Hugh, Jas
Jno, John, Ph, Pk, 2 x Rob
Th, Wm, Jno (Aughton, Oughton) 2 x Mary

If you want further details of any of the above Haughtons pm me direct.

I'm by no means an expert on tracing the Irish, but I presume that you have had a look at the LDS site and checked out the IGI records? As you probably know, Michael Malone and Catherine Byrne as very common names in Ireland and widespread too.

I did a search on the IGI records by putting in just the parents names of Michael Malone and Catherine Byrne and came up with these children:

Mary Anne Malone born 13 March 1864, Glencullen, Dublin
James Patrick Malone born 02 March 1872, Dublin Ireland
Esther Catherine Malone born 09 April 1873, Dublin, Ireland

I wouldn't think that they are all siblings of your John Malone though if he was born in 1840...but you never know especially if they were married in the early teens..it could be possible.

On the 1851 Dublin City census there are 131 Heads of household listed under 'Malone'.... 4 Michaels, Addresses:

88 King St North, Dist: St Pauls. Northside
15 Hammond Lane, St Michan's, N/S
16 Bull Alley, St Bridget's, Southside
4 Portland St. West, St Catherine's, S/S

For advice when you visit Ireland next April, try Janet North London Borders' thread on the Tips Board, 'First steps in Researching Irish Family History including Education. Update 7' from what I can see, she is the font of all knowledge when it comes to the Irish.

Also try the National Archives of Ireland. This website is informative and includes a good genealogy section which is very useful for overseas queries. They might be able to point you in the right direction. www.nationalarchives.ie/

Apart from that it's Google, and see what you can find, search and post messages on Ancestry.com and any other Irish website that you come across.

I think you are going to have your work cut out, but you might just find somebody researching the same line as you.

Don't forget to check out any Irish graveyard sites/information that you came across either. Try this one. www.interment.net under Republic of Ireland, Dublin.

Sorry I can't help any more, but I hope you succeed in tracing at least some your Irish ancestors.

Regards....Teresa

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. My gggrandfather Michael Malone a storekeeper who married Catherine Byrne. They had a son (perhaps more children) John Malone b 1840 Co Dublin who later came to Australia.I have John Malone's marriage certificate issued here in Australia but nothing more. My wife and I are visiting Ireland next April and we would very much like to see where my ancestors lived. I have looked up Griffith's Valuation Index and there are 5 Michael Malone's listed. Can you please advise me as to what I should do to find Michael Malone. Regards Ramon Coster Australia

For Maureen

First...I can't help with looking for any Irish BDM's as I'm in England. But as you know the DOB for your father and you know about his 10 siblings, I presume you know their DOB's too. If you know who is the eldest and where they were born, even if only a County in Ireland, you should still be able to apply for a Marriage Certificate of the parents.

That is how I managed to get my Grandparent's marriage certificate. I knew who was the eldest sister of my Mum, who was born in 1914 in Dublin so I entered the marriage date, on the applications form, as pre-1914. It was as simple as that. I think they will look back for 4 years. If they can't find it, then you will have to apply again with an earlier date.

You have the names of you Grandparents, so they should be able to locate the marriage for you. Then you will at least have an address and their fathers' names.

You can't order certificates on line...but it can be done by post.
Go to the appropriate website to print off application forms.

For Southern Ireland....www.groireland.ie/
For Northern Ireland.....www.groni.gov.uk/

You will need a debit or credit card though...safer to use a credit card, I think. Northern Ireland GRO will do it over the phone.

I had a quick look on the 1851 Dublin City census for the surname Ryan and there are 334 Heads of Household listed!
Nothing at all for Pash.

Once you know who Michael Ryan's father is then you can search the IGI records on LDS site...you might just find some of Michael's siblings.

Good luck..Teresa
