Paul - you obviously didn't have a sister or other female rellie who read Bunty comic. One character I remember (en passant, and in the interests of research, you understand) was Lettice Leaf. I think as a girl's name it's normally spelt with an i not a u, so maybe the registrar wsn't familiar with the name. J |

Hi I quited liked the one I came across today while searching the Hugh Wallis IGI site. Mr & Mrs Gotobed and another one I've seen several times. Call your daughter Rose, Primrose, Marigold, Daisy but how about Lettuce! Paul |

One of my ancestors sisters was called Fanny Brain. Obviously, the family werent too fussed about explicit names for their children. Imagine what stick they'd of got at school. Ben |

Tom - I was the culprit who found Willy and Fanny Fiddler - they were brother and sister. How could they sleep at night with names like that? |

I was looking at Leicester Parish Records the other day, and on nearly all the pages I looked at there was a lady who rejoiced in the name of Abstinence Pongher. |

I love reading these - so funny, aren't they? Can't think of any hilarious ones from my tree although I do have unusual names (not funny ones, though). For example, my grt grand aunt became FLORRIE JOLLY when she married. There's a whole VILE family (hope they weren't that bad!) - and I have some Greek rellies with unusual names (well, not to the Greeks) e.g. Elektra Markari, Frossoulla Markari (my gran - thank goodness Daddy Dear didn't get his own way to name me after her, bless!). NB - Paul - I raced off to have a look at that census page of the young chap on the vessel - yes, I can see what you mean...only I think his actual name is HENRY LUNT, not...well you know what LOL |
