Hi all. A lot of people have my mum in their tree as being born in Norfolk. I have her original b'cert and it was Southwark. And the family didn't move between birth and registration. Have a gr. aunt who I am reassured died and was buried in Canada. Nearly correct, she visited her brother there once and when she died her house name was Toronto, well it says so on her death cert but I am often told I am wrong. I was naughty once when an American (not Smith) asked for my tree info and said he would send me a copy of his. Lo and behold it arrived with all of my tree stuck onto his virtual forest. I got back to him and denied the joining birth of my tree to his but he insisted that a marriage took place beteen two pre teen children. I then sent him some more info ...this time it was a load of the bull preverbial that I made up as I went along and he now has it on his tree. Do I qualify to join please? Can I join too OC? I have a delightful rellie who is also researching the family history. Unfotunately for any future researchers of our common ancestors this rellie is also a member of the latter day saints and the errors are howlers. I will never believe the IGI ever again lol. My grandma always celebrated her birthdate 12th December WRONG her birthday was 12 October. Her twin brothers death was registered on the 12th December. What a terrible mistake. This came to light when she needed to confirm her age for pension way back in the late 1950's This is of courseis family only knowledge. Same as my grandad is down on 1891 and 1901 census as nephew when in fact he was son, his mother having brought him up as her nephew but again only later came to light. No way would this show on other peoples trees only family can know this.

Wilf, you will have to be a contestant on Seal, No Seal - where we all try to decide whether John Smith who married 'Mrs Smith' is the correct person, as submitted by the LDS Church Member (or LSD as I recall Ed once referred to it). Id like to involve as a contestant, the 'american cousin' who contacted me with a tree back to the early 17th century and who told me he regularly went to Utah so HE must be right, that my GGFx2 who was a lighterman was be born and lived in the farming area of Richmond, where we all know there was plenty of opportunities for dock workers to ply their trade.

Let's hear it for my gt gt grandfather who managed to father 2 children long after his death, strangely no birth certs can be found and his widow doesn't seem to have them with her on any census. But it's on the IGI so it must be right. And for his father who, so gencircles says, was born in Germany. He managed to make it back to Suffolk for his christening 3 days later, though. Gwynne

Most of the programme is taken up with the amusing ways the contestants find of travelling across country without using petrol or paying fares. (The series is finally pulled when it is realised that every episode has closed with a close up of the contestants' faces when they are told that the marriage took place in a registry office.)

My great grandfather died age 8 months. Nobody believes he is not my great grandfather, except his siblings' descendants. I have found the correct one and would really like to change his headstone but somebody found the other birth and ran with that. I've bought marraige cert that shows I'm correct and death cert of the wrong one, but still can't convince them. Don't know what you do. Some people are just pains!

What's In A Name? A new panel show in which contestants have to obtain a full family history from 1841 onwards, using only census information. The winner is the panel member who can do the full set, all of which have the correct, contemporary spelling of the family name. Other panel members can score points by spotting that Donne, Dunn, Dunne and Done are obviously not the same family because the family name is definitely Down. OC
