Hi I cant understand this but hope you can. On the 1871 census its says Emma Millership as Wife, then on 1881 census its Mary. I just spent a couple of hours looking for Emma's death and cant find it but was wondering could she have divorced her Husband Richard or left him? or was her name Emma but nicknamed Mary? Can anyone help please, Much appreciated. Regards Yvonne |

With the years of birth being so close I would be tempted to think that Emma and Mary were the same person. Have checked for a some marriage registrations but not coming up with anything positive at the moment. |

Sarah´s birth certificate would give her mothers name - which might help Births Jun 1873 Millership Sarah Ann West Bromwich 6b 764 - might then help to find a marriage date. |

Do you mean Emma and Mary their dates are similar, now I was thinking of that, perhaps she was called Mary as a nickname. Could be, youve got me thinking now. Thanks for looking for me its much appreciated. Regards Yvonne |

Hi Julie Many thanks for your information, Right I think Emma was nicknamed Mary perhaps as she got older. it is obvious that Emma lived to a ripe old age. To you and Elaine many thanks for your help its very kind of you. Ill send for some certificates I think. Problem nearly solved. Best Wishes Yvonne |

The older Sarah disappears from the list between 1871-1881, as does John. Assuming they didn't didn't die (deaths are indexed so far on the site only until 1848, for Oldbury), here are some possible marriages: Surname Forename(s) ~Surname Forename(s) ~Church / Register Office ~Registers At ~Reference West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1874 MILLERSHIP Sarah ~GRICE James ~Tipton, St Martin (Pepper Box) ~Sandwell ~39/12/485 West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1880 MILLERSHIP John ~BENTLEY Charlotte ~Tipton, St Mark ~Sandwell ~38/3/228 Christine |

Hi Christine This is getting really complicated and Im pretty good at finding things LOL Yes I suppose they could be. But Ive just been on the 1851 census and it says Richard Millership b1819 which is obviously my Richard married to Jane b1826! with one sone Richard b1850, now I know for sure that Richard b1850 wasnt born then he was born 1830 cos he is my Great great grandfather. I think he old Dickie b1819 was up to someting myself could he have been carrying on. mind boggles. Yvonne |

I notice there are deaths in 1891q4 for Richard (77) and John Millership (50) - ages would be a bit approximate. Both W Brom - 6b 498 and 495, respectively. (Note that these are the printed indexes, not typed or handwritten. I think some of these pages are relatively modern transcriptions of older indexes.) Christine |

In the 1881 Census the enumerator probably simply made a mistake with the name when he was transfering the information from the schedule to the book. (I have a similar instance) It has Richard and Emma again in 1891. Jennifer |

Maybe your Richard had already left home by 1851? If Richd snr had married again, He'd have no qualms about naming a new son after himself, I bet! there's this death record: Name: Agnes Jane Millership Year of Registration: 1858 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: West Bromwich County: Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire Volume: 6b Page: 431 Could be 1851's Jane? (Can't tell without an age) Christine |
