Hi I noticed that the names and ages of the rest of the household have been put at the bottom of the ' view record ' page Tricia |

Well, I still say that ''View Other Family Members'' is vital (well...maybe not VITAL, but very convenient) for those sad mortals amongst us who spend a lot of time helping others on this site. It's one thing to look at the actual page to see any mistranscriptions and occupations and type at the bottom of the Help, ''Lucy should say Lucretia and George is an Ag Lab'' but quite another to have to search through the 30 or so people on the page to copy all their details. I have always sighed when people wanted 1891 looups, because this has always been the most longwinded of the censuses to pick up the whole household, but now they are ALL going to be like it.......:o(( Merry |

I've looked up a couple of my known families in 1901. There seems to be loads of useful info. You can always look at the image if in doubt. J |

Same as Kat, I have used the view to see the names, but I find it annoying that they are in alpha. order rather than age as on the census - but like all changes I expect we will get used to it - have just had some info. today that confirms one of my bygone rellies and now have 6 siblings to find on census so will have plenty of time to get used to it! Fingers crossed. Gill |

I do use view record as a quick way to get the complete census ref for that page to use as a source, but I always check the image before I copy it, just in case lol. Kat :) |

I wonder if Ancestry are open to suggestions?!!!! I think it would be very helpful if you could search by name, year, area and occupation and ONLY get the ones that are relevant.......Just looked out of window and seen a huge flock of pigs flying past LOL Fuzzy |

I hate it!!!!!! It's no help at all - only serving to confuse me more than I was already and I didn't think that was possible! Why fix what wasn't broke??? !!!! Bev x |

Ann The only time I read the view record option is if I can't make out the first name of the person and where they were born. Sometimes the transcribers opinion as to what it is helps. Then again, sometimes it's no help at all (LOL) Margaret |

Merry, Thanks for the heads up, have been sunbathing all day and just thought I would check out the boards, just looked at ancestry after reading your posting and think it could potentially save loads of time. Only problem is if they have transcribed a spouse or parents name incorrectly!! Fuzzy |

1871 transcription also includes the 'parent or spouse' column.................it's going to cause absolute havoc! Reg |

Ah yes Margaret, but in the (hypothetical!!!) situation of wanting to copy and paste the household, viewing the rest of the family is quicker than viewing the page first to see which surnames are involved, then going back and viewing everyone on the census sheet and picking out the ones who were in the relevant household. (Disclaimer: obviously, I would never copy and paste from Ancestry......this is a hypothetical posting only!) Merry |

I agree with Angela I will be helpful to illimate people when you know the spouse ot parents name. Saves having to open all the images. I very rarely use the view record anyway, would rather see for myself. Margaret |

Overall I'm sure it will be useful, but it would be nice if Ancestry put some sort of explanation or comment when they add something to their search facilities...... Merry |

After moaning yesterday, I've been searching this morning & it can be useful for eliminating people without going through the images when searching. Still think it can be a bit misleading tho'. Angela |

Oh I see......depending on how you access the search box you MAY get the option of ''Search By Family Member''. The way I usually access the census you don't get that, but if you click the census link on the bottom of the search page, you do! Merry |

It's only the 1901 census that's changed. Images have never been visible on the 1841 Scottish census as far as I know - only on the English censuses. |
