I thought Marney was a nickname for (or enumerator's mistranscription of) Henry, judging by place and date of birth - see the CamDex records I found. Christine

Think the 1893 death may be another person as now convinced my girl is Antoinette and she appears to have moved to Surrey. Talk about a small world - just found Alfred Browning in 1881 with his wife and they are living in Smedley Street, Clapham. So? Well, the Browning lot are connected to my grannie Annie Eliza Matthews. Annie's husband (my grandfather Jeuel) had an elder brother Sam who was stationed as a policeman at Smedley St Police Station in 1891! nell

I think Antennae is right, i think this lot just were beamed down from 1851-1861. No trace of the children (how can you lose someone like Marney!) on Ancestry bmd or censuses after 1861 or on familyhistoryonline which has a good lot of Cambs marriages and burials. nell

The reason I got on to Anty & Thos in the first place is that in 1851 they have a servant called Mary Moore living with them. I think that this Mary is possibly related as she is Emma's elder sister and a daughter of Wm Moore & wife Susannah (nee Browning). But its only a hunch. Just thought I'd try looking for the children from 1861 in 1871 and I can't find one of them! Why do we do this?????? nell

Sue These Brownings are soooo common. But I have got a Thos Browning baptism in Ely Holy Trinity 1812. On the census - Where he is with Antennae or whatever she's called: 1851 he says born 1810 Cambridgeshire (BIG help!) and is a shoemaker. 1861 he says Cambridgeshire (!) 1808 and is a bootmaker. Without Antennae: 1841 - not certain at all this is the same chap, though mindful that they were supposed to round ages down, I have a Thomas with wife Mary in Ely. Birthyear 1806 - but he is working as an ag lab. However 1841 census has him with son Thomas who is the right age to be the chap with him in 1851 1871 Thos is listed as married, no sign of wife, lodging in Ely bd 1805 and is ag lab. I am now double checking as 1871 and 1841 match Thos senior; 1841 and 1851 match Thos junior and 1851 and 1861 are the ones with Antennae or whatever she was called! nell

I'm back! Sorry folks, husband hogged the computer all day and most of yesterday night!!!!! Thanks for all the suggestions and findings. I will trawl through them. Daisy, you are a star. It would be great if you could find a likely Swaveley baptism, but I don't have a first name for her and only a rough birthdate of 1823? Could be a long trawl. If I could find the marriage it would help. Not even sure if this is my family! I have a gt gt grandmother called Susanna Browning - got all her details - and her father was called Robert Browning. I am just presuming because Robt and Thos were both shoemakers/cordwainers that there's a connection. Susannah's daughter Emma Moore has a 'T. Browing' [that's what it says not BrowNing] as a witness to her marriage in 1865, which I am thinking could be Thos senior or junior.
