Street names tend to run with current events. Luton has a cluster of streets named after Crimea locations and generals (Inkerman, Cardigan, Alma) and another clutch relating to the Marquis of Bute who built Luton Hoo. J |

Yes, there's only one Richard Sharpe!, lovely man! :)) Back to Browning again, on the 1851 Strays index, (CHFS) there is an Edward, in Thetford, age 15, born Chesterton 1836... not sure if he is related somwhere!. Chris :) |

A bit off topic - but the Sharpe series was very enjoyable on TV - and I enjoyed reading the books, too. Christine |

Ooh, don't know the answer to that one Christine! :)) was just curious, as I thought it might have been Butchers Row!, came across it on google!, anything to do with Wellington, and my hero is Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe! :))) Chris :) |

I thought it must be that Blucher. Didn't he ride in, at the last minute, leading the Prussians to turn the day? (Depending on which version you read!) Christine |

Just been looking around the CFHS (Cambridgeshire FHS Searchable Databases) they now have 1861 by the way, saw Antonettes birth, daughter of Henry and Eliza, which you do have, not sure if there is anything else there that might help... |

Any chance you could get copies of the Baptism Register pages for St A the Less for that period? It might rule someone out? Of course... it might rule some more in! Christine |

There are a couple of Robert Brownings in the SAL area who didn't survive very long: Surname: BROWNING Forename: Robert Middle Initial: Year of Birth: 1841 Reference: 331/SAL 04/35 District: Cambridge Surname: BROWNING Forename: Robert Middle Initial: Year of Death: 1841 Age: 0 Reference: 331/SAL/2/446 District: Cambridge ---- Surname: BROWNING Forename: Robert Middle Initial: Year of Birth: 1849 Reference: 331/SAL 010/141 District: Cambridge Surname: BROWNING Forename: Robert Middle Initial: Year of Death: 1849 Age: 0 Reference: 331/SAL/7/154 District: Cambridge altho' that could be a match for this birth, but it isn't in quite the same area, and also has a middle initial... Surname: BROWNING Forename: Robert Middle Initial: F Year of Birth: 1849 Reference: 331/STG/4/260 District: Cambridge Christine |

This may be why you can't find William in the 1851. It might be a mismatch of records, but if they'd dropped the ''Trundley/r'' bit... Surname: BROWNING Forename: William Middle Initial: Year of Death: 1849 Age: 2 Reference: 331/SAL/6/457 District: Cambridge So, since Cambridge gives ages at death even this early, you can see he would have been born about 1847. And his death was registered in the ''SAL'' area of Cambridge. Or he could be that next child - if it isn't the same one. Christine |

Here's the 1847 birth from the Cambridge BMD site... Surname: TRUNDLEY Forename: William Middle Initial: B Year of Birth: 1847 Reference: 331/SMG/3/91/1 District: Cambridge I'd guess that ''SMG'' means ''St Mary the Great'', just as ''SAL'' probably means ''St Andrew the Less''. Haven't looked to see how close the two parishes are in Cambridge. Don't know what to make of this, but it looks as if it's next (i.e. consecutive) record: Surname: BROWNING Forename: William Middle Initial: Year of Birth: 1847 Reference: 331/SMG/3/91/2 District: Cambridge There's also this one: Surname: BROWNING Forename: William Middle Initial: F Year of Birth: 1847 Reference: 331/SAL 08/474 District: Cambridge Christine |

I noticed on CamDex that Savil(le) seems to be a Trundley/r first name. It crops up more than once as I recall. Christine PS - I don't think I dropped any crumbs in the keyboard... on the floor, maybe, but not in the keyboard! |

Ah! Oooh! Oh! Golly gosh! etc. Ok, bear with me. Just going through my Brownings. I think Thomas is a sibling of my gt gt grandmother Susannah. So I am looking at another sibling Robert and guess what - Robert and Sarah's address in 1841 is Blucher Row - which is Thomas Bruinwhatever and Anty Trundlers in 1841!!!! nell |

OK I now have family A 1841 - possibly Blucher [?] Row, St Andrew the Less Cambridgeshire [all born in county] William Flack 25 abt 1816 labourer Matilda Flack 23 abt 1818 Henry Palmer 2 abt 1839 Thomas Broain 30 [image looks like Brirarin] abt 1811 shoem. Anty Trundler 20 abt 1821 Thomas Trundler 2 abt 1839 which might be my Thomas Browning and his wife Antonetta, who appear in 1851. No Freebmd birth for Thomas Trundler or Thomas Browning, but there is a Thomas Trundley in 1839. 1851 HO107/1760 359 p.21 Cambridge St Andrew the Less 9 Albert Street, Thomas Browning abt 1810 Cambridgeshire, Head cordwainer [Robt's occupation was shoe maker] Anturantte[image looks just like that] Browning abt 1823 Swaversey, Cambridgeshire, Wife laundress Thomas Browning abt 1838 Cambridgeshire, Son scholar Alfred Browning abt 1850 Cambridgeshire, Son James Dalton abt 1781 Cambridgeshire, Lodger cordwainer >>Mary Moore abt 1840 Cambridgeshire, Servant house servant Alternatively, I've found Thomas junior b. 1838 with father Thomas a labourer and wife Mary in 1841. So either Thomas was shacked up with Ant* in 1841 and later married her (or they pretended to be married) OR Ant* was 2nd wife (or pretended wife) after Mary. This would explain 1851 entries with gap of over 10 years between children. I looked for other Trundler/Trundley births and found this one William Browning Trundley Year of Registration: 1847 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Cambridge (1837-1935) County: Cambridgeshire Volume: 14 Page: 22 Sure these families are connected, I just wish I could work it out! |
