Hi Mike, Sorry for the delay in replying. I've checked details for Rose Taylor's birth, and I came up with the same information for the June 1/4 1903, which you had found. I don't have the name for Rose's mother. The marriage took place at the Register Office in 1926, in the County Borough Of Leicester and Rose worked as a Hosiery Winder. Thanks Again Anne

Hi Jan Thanks for that, just let me know if you want to look at the early names, they all pass through either Barton/Thringston/Whitwick and the Kendricks are in Hugglescote and Baptised at Normanton. My contact who gave me the very early stuff still lives in Nailstone! Elaine

Yesterdays Journey records the names of those people who had dealings with those events and the paperwork involved. The documents that sent them back to their legal settlement or let them stay in a new parish. The warrants for their arrest, or the Indentures that gave them a start in working life and the papers that named the fathers of illegitimate children, or the Wills that folks left. They are all here.......Dealing primarily with Derbyshire it does however cover the whole of the British Isles as people moved around seeking work, travelled as vagrants through the County or were chased throughout the realm as the responsibility of fatherhood and law caught up with them. Fascinating!

Elaine Not knowing much about Nailstone I googled and finding a map, realised that it is very close to Barton-in-the-Beans. There was a Baptist Church there that was responsible for establishing daughter churches in the area, including the one I belong to in Hugglescote. I can have a look in Coalville library to see what there is on Nailstone - not much I would have thought! Looks like I need to get back on the case of the MOORES! Thanks Elaine Jan

Hi Jan Early Moore's were Baptists apparently, have compiled a tree from a fellow Moore that I have yet to prove if you would like the gedcom. This is my ggggreatgrandfather GEORGE MOORE - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Adult Christening: 08 SEP 1829 Nailstone, Leicester, England Age at Adult Christening: 50 marrying Ann Smith MARRIAGE:- All Saints Nailstone Parish Church. George Moore. Bachelor of the Parish of IBSTOCK. Ann SMITH. Of this Parish. Married following Banns by me :- Thos. Adnatt. Curate. Married this Eight day of November. One Thousand Eight Hundred and One. George signed by his own signature. Ann by her Mark = + Wit’s Sarah Saddler. Joseph Storer. Going on my line, their son George marries Sarah Kendrick 24 Jan 1843 Chapel of Hugglescote,Ibstock, Leicester Marriage witnesses John Biddle and Elizabeth Twigg (John Biddle marries Mary Moore and Twigg is Sarah's mothers maiden name) and I know they are not Baptists, George and Sarah's grandson is baptist, George and Sarah are in the city for the 1861 census and none of the family return to Nailstone as far as I know. Perhaps you could tell me more about All Saints Nailstone Parish Church, I have marriage dates to 1729 at Nailstone (no church named) and previous to that the marriage is Normanton. On the info I was given I searched the IGI but now I really need to go through records but can't find time to get to Leicester at all. Any MOORE I can help you with !!! Elaine

Elaine That's really interesting, because my father-in-law was brought up Cof E and became a Baptist, but over at Hugglescote, marrying a FLAMSON. Would be interested to know who was, then wasn''t, then was a Baptist - if you see what I mean! Jan

Greeting’s again Anne…. JOURNEYMAN …… A tradesman who has served his trade apprenticeship and mastered his craft, not bound to serve a master, but originally hired by the day. The name derives from the French for day - jour. In the medieval system, towns had special privileges and trades and crafts were controlled by guilds. The workplace was run by the master who employed apprentices and journeymen, Journeymen had completed their apprenticeships and were qualified to do the job (ie be paid daily wages). In time they could become masters in their own right, but this would require acceptance by the guild - and presumably a certain amount of capital. In this context journeyman simply means a time served craftsman entitled to a man's wages. RE Taylors ....? Are we talking Taylor's within the CITY of Leicester ? Hi Mike, LEONARD PHILIP ISAACS I've now received Leonard's 2nd marriage certificate from 1926. This was to Rose Taylor aged 23 living 15 Bolton Road Leicester. Her father, James Henry Taylor was a steam roller driver. Is it possible to find any information on the Taylor's side? Do you know what profession a 'journeyman' was? Regards Anne

Elaine Stephens Had a quick look today but didn't find anything - except that Sarah and her sisters don't appear in the Hugglescote St John's baptisms. All I know for certain with hubby's family is that his grandad Joseph married Emily Burrows, originally from Stoney Stanton. I got a bit lost with all the Moores and haven't done much for months on it. I will get back to it! Just out of interest, hubby's dad is remarrying in January aged 75!!! Jan

I have 1851 Census HO/107/2090 Living at 60 Braunstone Gate, St Mary's, Leicester George Moore Head Age 33 Occupation Labourer Born Nailstone, Leicester (Thringstone 1861 ??? ) Sarah Wife Age 27 Occupation Laundress Born Nailston, Leicester George Son Age 6 Born Whitwick, Leicester Ann Dau Age 4 Born Whitwick, Leicester Thomas Son Age 3 Born Whitwick, Leicester William Son Age 1 Born Whitwick, Leicester Jane Kendrick Age 20 Sister Occupation Laundress Born Hugglescote, Leicester Emma Kendrick Age 9 Sister Born Hugglescote, Leicester Sarah's maiden name is Kendrick, whilst I can't pinpoint anything definate for you to look up, I wondered if you could bear the children (George c1845, Ann c 1847,Thomas 1848 and William c1850) in mind if you were looking through baptism registers for your family. I only know Thomas's birth which was 20th March 1848, Whitwick and George and Sarah were married 24th Jan 1843 at Hugglescote. I have a contact who has a William Moore in her tree connected by surnames Mee, Algood and Hallam if it rings a bell with you, let me know in case Many thanks Elaine

Seeing the early dates you have quoted it will be only achieved by trawling Parish archives. …. Other thing’s to look for……… Land Registers. Settlement Certificates. Minutes of Parish Committee Meetings. Above can be searched at Wigston Records Office. Just ask the Librarian at the desk in search Room No. 2. You’ll find them most helpful…….. Tansley's ....?
