I remember the maypole in tuebrook Liverpool 1950 s My cousin Sylvia worked there. They had a system whereby you bought your goods then there was an overhead wire system where the assistant put the money in and it went up to the office where they sent the change back.

I worked in Lewis in the office on the 6th floor. my job was to water the plants, but the loo was quite a way so when I had any extra water over just used to chuck it out of the window. Found out later my office was over the head of the naked man, so when the water came down there was a crowd looking up to see if he really had done a wee.

I'm originally from that place down the East Lancs Road that begins with an 'M'!!! My connection and memories of Liverpool are, travelling down said road with a load of musicians, and all their instruments(couldn't take my piano!) to play at the Cavern in late 50's early 60's. As you probably know, the Cavern started as a jazz club, run by a chap called Ray McFall, and the band I played with had a regular weekly spot. In fact they didn't have a piano, and acquired one for me! The Swinging Blue Jeans,Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, and even early Beatles filled in for us when we had a break and went to the Grapes. It was at the time Ringo played with Rory Storm, and didn't have much of a drum kit,and sat in with our drummer's kit. Our drummer wasn't that keen on a little scruffy lad playing on his drums,as they were his pride and joy. I've done many an all night session there with all the big name jazz bands, and in between our spots, tried to have a doze in our van parked in Matthew St. We also played at the Iron Door Club. That even seemed seedier than the Cavern, but was upstairs and not a cellar. We also did a couple of gigs at the Empire and St Georges Hall, and I seem to remember a club called the Blue Note. Those were the days, lots of fun,not hugely paid, but never forgotten!! Brenda

I was born over the water in the 60's, but spent alot of time over in Liverpool visiting my Dad's side of the family. I have great memories of Stanley Park and the cuckoo clock made of plants, the little green hut opposite Goodison that sold ice creams, Paddy's market on a Saturday in Great Homer's Street, loads of stalls with second hand clothes, going to church at St. Domingo's with my Nan in her black veil, taking flowers afterwards to Anfield Cemetery. Brilliant place and time. Helen

I remember my Dad being in Stanley Hospital in 1966 (?) and getting me the aughtrographs of Billy J Kramer, he was in the bed next to one of his ( their) mates !!. One of my best memories is of my Nan and Auntie dancing to 'Bits and Pieces. ' To my eternal shame at the time. !! Friday afternoons and home made wine have never been the same..lol. . Nan your Christmas roasties take some beating, Grandad was always at leat an hour later from the pub he said he would be. Would you ever learn???. 'Leave it Jinny!. I have left it ever since. I lived in Aigburth and went to Sudley Road School - I remember going to the Mariner's Table(?) in Lord Street, dining out on my boyfriend's Luncheon Vouchers. Having a perm at Lewis's and coming out looking like a golliwog.Going into Hendersons - very posh! St John's market when it sold puppies and other pets and I wanted to rescue the lot. Going rowing on Sefton Park Lake with my Dad and seeing someone fall in and realising that it wasn't all that deep. Those were the days!
