Local centres generally hold permanently, local information. They also have GRO indexes on fiche and usually have local census too. They also have a huge pile of other, local stuff which isnt necessarily in the CRO. Impossible to generalise - each centre is different. OC

This may seem like a silly question, but as there's a centre very near me I thought I'd ask... what information do they hold at the LDS centres? What's the difference vs say, the local records office? (the website is being extremely difficult and I keep getting a maintainence message) Thanks, Liz

Is there a list of LDS Centres in the UK? I live in Hertfordshire and will go into London if necesary, but would like to know if there is one close by.

Hi Margaret, I think it is a good idea to phone them first just to check if they have space for you. They only have several micro machines and sometimes they are all in use.

I guess it just depends where you live, Margaret. I always just drop into mine and have never had a problem but then I live in a small city in Canada. Margaret

I would definitely phone first - they get heavily booked. I found them helpful and friendly and they did not try to convert me. I had already heard from other peole this is how it would be. Very well worthwhile. Clive

I've never been to an LDS Centre before, so don't know what to expect. I have a centre not too far from where I live but it's only open for a couple of hours on a Wednesday evening. Should I go there and just 'see how it works'? M. Steer
