Re Army Records: when you write to Glasgow, they send forms back to fill in (of course the would!). If you are not the spouse of the service person, a search will cost £30. Am plucking up the courage to splash out this to me rather large sum of money to find out about my father's service. Jan |

Hi Mike Many thanks for your efforts on my behalf. Shame they didn't come to anything. You've got me thinking now. I know they lived in Bruin Street when they were first married because a number of the houses there were owned by Emma's grandfather, Samuel Bradbury. They moved to Woodville Road when those houses were built, and then to Culver Road in the 30s, but God only knows where they would have lived between say 1918 and Woodville Road being built. Thanks anyway. Looks as if I'm as far away as ever from tracking down Grandad's war service. File under L for loose ends. Cheers Sheila |

Mike - thanks so much for looking that up for me. I Feel that baptism would make her a little young to be married in 1801 - lol. But stranger things have happened on my tree - another gt gt g/m was a 13 year old serving wench when she was put in the pudding club by His Lordship! It would be wonderful if you can find the time to have a look at the Records Office for me - this one has puzzled me for 20 years. The family story is that the Harrisons were prosperous farmers and Daniel Winterton married well! (His family were FWK's before this event). Its hard to find the info when you live out in the Aussie bush! |

Hi Mike Edwin Phillips, born August 1889 was the son of Abraham and Charlotte (nee Allen). They were in the hosiery trade and were in Tyndale Street in 1901. As far as I am aware he was conscripted after his marriage in 1915, but I can't find his medal card. Bruin Street is/was off Belgrave Road on the left going out of town, before you get to the junction with Loughborough Road. How can someone I knew turn out to be a mystery? Will be interested to hear what you turn up. Cheers Sheila |
