In one prolific family, I have boys called Allison(2), Oman, Lovel(2), Harrison and Simpson - all surnames on the maternal side. At least they are easy to trace. My father's cousin was called Laola, not many of those around. Jay

My husband's gran was Nuldica. When she was born her father had one too many wetting the baby's head then toddled off to the registery office. He was actually trying to spell Lucinda! I also have a Dyar (male). It only ever came up the once, so the family must have disliked it or him.....lol Deb:)

I have a Loveday too Laura (that is if the bloke my dad was told was his dad really was LOL) I think it's a lovely name, but she was known as Grace!!! What I really liked about Sylvanus, (which means 'of the woods') was that mine was a hedger!! I could have understood my G grandad and gg uncles using their second names - but they didn't!! They just seemed to have chosen random names. I have a few other ancestors that did this - very confusing!! maggie

Laura, obviously they wanted expensive motors but couldn't afford it. Can just imagine it... 'Oh I'm picking up Mercedes but Ferrari is at home. lol I have a Sulvanus, but I did notice that the time, it wasn't that unusual a name... I mean, it wasn't as popular as George or Frederick but still, several on the census. He was known as John (his middle name) and when I told dad he had an uncle Sulvenus... he was all huh? He mentioned it to his cousin and she was like... yeah.. that was my dad. LOL. So weird names can be the best kept secret in a family lol. I have cousins with unusual names for the UK and finding their marriages was an absolute doddle.

I have a Loveday, and a Mahala - plus a few other biblical ones further back, but only the Loveday one is directly related to me - lol. Odd names around, but then I guess they would think some of the names around today are shocking. At the school my mum works at there used to be a family with children named Mercedes, Bentley and Harley with a cousin called Ferrari!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now Mercedes I quite like, a pretty spanish name, but the rest?! OMG! Laura
