The 1895 death is almost certainly the same man:

Deaths Sep 1895 (>99%)
Woan Thomas 70 Preston 8e 427

Remember that newspaper reports aren't always correct.
Also, age stated on a death cert depends on how accurate the informant's info is.

I found these newspaper cuttings and wondered if anyone is able to look at the full cuttings

The death took place in action on November of Pte.
•Thomas Woan, Loyal North Lancs., aged ig. He enlisted on May 24th this year, and went France on October 22nd.

hanging. Ha had been suffering from rheumatism

I have looked at the Lancashire b.m.d and there is a listing for Thomas Woan in that year but his age is 70 and not 74 so I’m not sure if he is the same man,
