Thank you Erika and Shirley. John snr was born 1811 and John jnr born 1839. John snr at Bradley and John jnr at Dudley. Most of the family emigrated to Canada but father John and wife Mary Ann came back to England. Ellen Allsop who is 3 on 1861 census and shown as daughter has no mother's maiden name on gov website and I think is probably illegitimate. Mary Ann Allsop's (born 1810) maiden name is Done. They are on 1871 census for Canada. Unfortunately, there are a few John Allsops in Wolverhampton area. I will dig further and may have to resort to buying certificates. Thanks again for your help. |

As you don't know whether the John who placed the advert was father or brother of Mary, you can't have any idea of his age, so looking for him isn't really possible |

Hello Duncan, I have searched his name but not sure if any of them are my John Allsop. You can search by address on FMP but I don't have a subscription. Thank you trying. |

I have looked and failed. 4 John Allsop's were in Wolverhampton, but none of the addresses were 9 Evans Street. Having said that, I don't know how to search for an address as opposed to a person. |

Why not search on his name on the 1881 census ? |
