An apparently well-researched tree on Ancestry ("belonging" to a great-grandchild of Walter) says that the witnesses to the marriage were I Laxton and Alfred Noel. Address given at time of marriage as 44 Charteris Road, London NW6. |

thanks for the info, much appreciated. I've come to a full stop on my father's side because i only have a name and no dates. i thought if i could get the marriage certificate of the son of this person, i can get the info on his parents and get further in the tree. The marriage certificate i need is between Walter Edward Day (birth 1879) |

Civil registration began in 1837 although it wasn’t necessary to do so for some years. |

It depends what year the marriage was. Most of the images of marriage records on Findmypast are from the 1800's. |
