I know Greg is really asking about Irene, not Ada, and Glenise has not returned to her thread.

However, looking at the 1939 record posted on this thread - and that's why I'm posting here and not on the other thread - some things don't quite add up.

Greg says that Maureen is still alive - in which case she can't be (or at least shouldn't be) the Maureen listed in 1939.

That Maureen's mmn was Parkinson, not Lissaman.

IF that's the right family in 1939, and IF that's Greg's Maureen who is shown in spite of being alive, is it possible that Maureen is Irene's daughter and not Ada/Ida's?
I don't want to cause any upset to your Maureen, if she's the same person, but I don't see the birth of a Maureen with mmn Lissaman.

Or did whoever registered Maureen's birth give the wrong mmn by mistake?

Does the DOB of the Maureen in 1939 match that of your Maureen, Greg?

On the other thread you say your mother's name is Betty, and I see from your birth on FreeBMD that her mn is Smith.
Looking on FreeBMD and GRO, (and possibly adding 2 and 2 and making 5) I see the birth of a Smith/Lissaman child with the middle name Betty.

If that's your mother, she was born before the 1939 Register when Ada is called Whitaker (married 1938), not Smith.

Evelyn Joyce Smith (1924) shown on the 1939 Register also had mmn Lissaman.
There was also a son John 1927. They are therefore siblings of the child who is (presumably ?) your mother.

I don't see a likely Lissaman/Smith, Whitaker/Smith or Parkinson/Smith marriage.

The family seems more complicated that at first glance.

Thanks for getting in touch, as far as I am aware ,Ada had the following children...
Irene Parkinson
Joyce, John, Ivor, Dorothy (Betty) whose Father collectively was a John Smith, he and Ada never married.
Maureen Whittaker (from a second marriage)
Ada married Walter later and it sounds as if it didn't end well, hence your last post from the Coventry Telegraph.
Maureen is now Maureen Blue from a second marriage in 1970. She was born about 1948... Maureen lives in South Australia and we Zoom regularly. Maureen never met Irene either.
Betty married in about 1952 to Colin Bartlem.

Ivor's birth registration gives his mmn as Parkinson, as does Maureen's.

I know mistakes happen, but it's strange that Maureen's record is open on the 1939 Register.

Actually, I've realized that Maureen was born in about 38. My cousins are Fiona and Julie, both in Australia (the family were 10 pound poms).
Maureen should really have been a Whitaker but just maybe Ada married Mr Whitaker after she was born? Her actual name would have remained Parkinson following the first marriage as she and John Smith never married, but clearly some of the children, such as my mother Betty were given that name.
Lissamen was Ada's maiden name.
It is clear that Ada lived a turbulent life, I knew her later and she died in 1984, having been fairly settled and single since splitting up from Mr Offord.

The children's mother's maiden name (mmn) shown on their birth registrations should have been Lissaman in all cases. Parkinson was one of her married names, not her maiden name.

She was - but her mother's maiden name was given as Parkinson, when it should have been Lissaman.

If you've read all the information found for you , you'll have seen that Maureen's birth registration was posted earlier in this thread - see the post at 14:45 on 21st May.
She was born in the October-December quarter of 1938, and her exact date of birth was shown in the 1939 Register in the same post.

(DOB's are sometimes not exact on the 1939 Register, but it will be pretty close.)

Ada married Wilfred Whitaker in the Jan-March quarter of 1938 (see the post at 05:56 on 21st May).

But as I said, her maiden name was always Lissaman, no matter how many times she married.
Someone must have given the wrong mmn when registering the births of Ivor and Maureen.
All the other children's births are correct , with mmn stated as Lissaman.

Hi Greg sorry not been on for a while been dealing with my cousin's adoption into our family finding his biryh mother which have found but no father name listed and there are no records in archives of warwickshire council or courts..Hopefully you have made some progress with your research. I will try to take good look at thread soon

Oh would just like to add that one of my grandads wives was only after his money this was Ada Lissaman that is why he divorced her there were family rumours of it being bigamy but there is no-one alive to ask and not sure where I can get that information from
