The phrase “most of the parish registers up to 1900 are on FMP” may suggest that there a very little more to be found.

The record to which the poster refers seems to have been taken from FMP

The above says most of the parish registers up to 1900 are on FMP.

Try the local FHS, or the Records Office

1768 Ashwell Burial 27/04/1768 Mary Warboys (nee Parker ?) wife of William.
There were no more birth to William & Mary in Ashwell until 1797.
Possibly married Mary Westrop and moved to Bishops Stortford if it is the same William. Needs checking somehow.

Possible, Guilden Morden, Steeple Morden and Ashwell are the three ancient family stomping grounds and I've recorded BMDs from those back to 1600, some of which link into my tree.

I need to get back into the Hertford record office but I believe it has shut again for the virus but I think some records are their online site.

Marriage 13th May, birth 22nd November.
Dad must have had the shotgun out !

On the other hand my cousin was surprised to learn that his dad was born almost exactly five months after his grandparents got married.

This marriage might be worth consideration ?

Sutton and Cockayne Hatley are only about 8 miles further away from Bishops Stortford than Ashwell is.

James 1770 might have been the reason for the marriage - ( or else the son of a different William and Mary!)

ADDED:

5 May must have been one of the Banns dates - or else this record below is mistranscribed:

I am pretty sure that Thomas 1775 in Bishops Stortford, parents William & Mary, is my ancestor.
So far as I can find, John, 1761 was the only child of the 1760 marriage of William and Mary Parker. The doubt I have is the apparent age difference if it was the 1741 William and 1723 Mary which would make them c.19 and c.37.
My surmise is that Mary (nee Parker) died between 1761 and 1770 and that William remarried to another Mary.
There is a Mary Warboys, wife of William, burial at Ashwell on 27/04/1768.
So the crux seems to be to find that second marriage c. 1769.

Baptisms at Bishops Stortford (if that's relevant, or if the Mary Parker marriage is a red herring, or if they moved from Ashwell), with parents William and Mary Warboys:

James - born 22 Nov 1770
John - 9 Nov 1781
William - 11 Oct 1772
Thomas - 24 Aug 1775
Robert Richard - 20 Aug 1784

Baptism - John at Ashwell 26 April 1761 to William and Mary Warboys

The only Mary Parker baptism in Ashwell from FMP is 20 Nov. 1723 to parents John and Mary.

But parish at time of marriage doesn't mean that's where born

greyghost

greyghost Report 2 Nov 2020 21:04

Mary unlikely to have been born 1723 and having children 1770

and William unlikely to have been married previously if married 1760 and born c1741

The marriage to Mary Parker was in Ashwell on 14 October 1760, both of the parish.
Unfortunately looking at the image, it doesn't say whether they were spinster/bachelor or widow/widower
Witnesses Edward Everard and John Walduck
Both made their mark
Banns read Sept. 21st and 28th and Oct. 5th

I need some help with finding the wife(s) and parents of William Worboys who died in 1835 aged 94 in Bishops Stortford, Herts so born about 1741.
From his children’s births his wife’s given name was Mary. First child I have is James born 22/11/1770 in Bishops Stortford.
On Ancestry there seem to be two entries from other members, which I found but now cannot locate, for his marriage in 1768, both to Mary Parker but one gives her birth as 1723 and the other 1740.
It is possible that he was married prior to 1768 but the likelihood of both wives being named Mary Parker seems slim.
Any pointers to get through this brick wall would be gratefully received.
