i am researching Ashley name for my father in law. he was David John Hughes, I have spoken via Genes to Frank Ashley and he recomended after searching through his own tree i try and get in touch with Gillian Ellard who has a large list of Ashley names, can anyone help to put me in touch with Gillian.??? John Hughes Ashley was a police officer in the MET, as was his brother Thomas Jones Ashley in 1911 census...

Thank you so much for your reply, sorry it took me so long to suss out .
I think that my father in law was looking to see if there is a link between his own family and the John Hughes Ashley family..He got a letter from Metropolitan Police Office back in 1987...we didnt know anything about this, as my son who has lots of boxes from his grandads old house and really only just started looking through them...and so the search began for me to try and find out about him and family...He started in 1893 as a police officer at age 21, in transferred to CID in 1899 carried on through the years and was promoted to Chief Constable in 1929, he retired in 1932...still searching
