There is a German site on Facebook

I joined it and with the record of a son born in Bradford Yorkshire I was given info on my grandads family and his name before he anglicised it

For years I only had the 1889 birth and 1899 and 1901 census for his family and his marriage to gran and his death at sea in 1911

I didn’t know his birth name was different from the name he adopted when the family tried to anglicise their names
His parents kept their German surname but played around with what they called the boys on the census
