Illegitimate Birth in a nursing home

I have found an ancestor in a nursing home on the 1911 census, with her newborn child. As her family were not wealthy and she was a housemaid, I think it unlikely she, or they, would have been able to pay for this. The small nursing home is in Bedford, whereas the mother was born in Lincoln. Has anyone come across a similar situation? My current thinking is that a member of the household where she was working was the father, and that rather than simply throwing her out, they were a little more honourable and paid for the nursing home care. Is this a reasonable explanation?

Any thoughts on this or alternative explanations would be appreciated.

People could suggest any number of scenarios - all speculative.
