See if this will help - leads to Govt site press release "Relatives of adopted adults now able to trace family tree". The link was too long to post in the original format.

Yes , children and grandchildren can be assisted and have been since 2014..of a deceased adoptee.

There is a legal process to go through. and may be limited to what information is released.that isn't relevant to the case and may involve a long process.

DNA testing? Your friend might get a match with someone else then work out the possible parents or siblings.

he had told another family member he was brought over from Ireland by nuns and given a new family. its my friends grandfather. he died when she was 10 and its only now that she has started to look into her family tree that she has been told. it seems he didn't talk about it as he loved his adoptive parents and felt disrespectful to them

No is the brief answer
Only the adoptee is entitled to see the adoption papers.
How did your friend find out he was adopted as he died so long ago?

I have a friend whose grandfather was born in 1929 and died 1992. She has found out that he was adopted. Is there anyway she can find out anything about his adoption etc..
