Hi I am trying to fill in some gaps in the life of my G aunt Eliza Tidy . She was born in Jersey in 1860 the daughter of James Tidy (Tiddy ) and Ann (NEE Chick) . James was a stone mason and the family moved about a lot . I know where they where in 1871 , St Budeaux , Knackersknowle , Devon and by 1881the family had moved to Worksop in Nottinghamshire . Eliza gave birth to a son Richard Francis in Nottingham Union Workhouse on New years eve 1880 ( no father named on his birth certificate ).
I then loose track of Eliza between 1881 - 1888 when she married Charles Motley and was living in Brightside Sheffield. In 1891 Richard Francis was living with my Great Grandparents in Worksop and was living with his mother and step father in Sheffield in 1901. I think he and Eliza must have stayed in contact during those missing years but I so far not been able to find where they were or what Eliza was doing . I think Richard Francis was probably a nurse child during that time . I would appreciate any help or suggestions on where to look next . Regards Mary

Is it just 1881-88 you want to know about?
Does that timespan include the 1881 census? I can't see her in 1881 [ EDIT: but see next post ].

Chances are there won't be any records to find apart from the census.

Thank you that looks like my Eliza . I wonder if James Francis could be Richard Francis ? the age seems to fit and he is living close to the rest of the Tidy family . I think there is a strong possibility . Again thanks for your help .

I was assuming that James was Richard. Everything else fits.

There's no matching birth of a James Tidy.
