Fits with the 1917 marriage, I would suggest

ErikaH, as a child I used to take books from my Father to the man I called Martin for swaps. This man was the husband of my aunt Ethel, who was Mother of my cousin Mary and her sister and brothers.
I'm willing to admit Martin may not have been his name, but that's what we called him.
Mary's eldest son is named Martin, presumably after his GF

Well if you hadn't found that I'd insist their name was Saints

Janet Atkinson my GM, died of bowel cancer in 1945.

Her funeral, embalming, hearse and other car, interment in All Saints Cemetery and notice in the local newspaper £24 - 10 shillings.
I had the CWS receipt. You could pay that for a bouquet these days.

Re Dorothy and Richard Saints , they are both registered as having mother's maiden name Walker. So mother was definitely Ellen Walker.

To recap, Thomas and Janet, Ella, margaret M Wharton , Ethel Gustard ( with children) and Ellen Saints all at 186 Portland Rd on the 1939 Register.

Only connection I'm aware of is same Father, different Mother.

Archibald Saints had been a sailor / mariner from Bermuda. I'm just going off long ago memory here. Think and Nellie separated. Nellie died in hospital.

Interesting Nyx My aunt May and Uncle John and John jr lived at 200 Portland Road with my parents and GF when I was a child (post 1945)

The surname for Nellie and Margaret M is definitely Walker,

Aunt Nellie was married to Archibald Saints (I think he was from Bermuda)
They had a son Richard and a daughter Dorothy who married Renick had two children then they divorced. Dorothy went on to be a nurse at the RVI Newcastle
