JoonieCloonie Report 4 May 2017 00:49

READ, THURSDAY ROSE mother GARNHAM
GRO Reference: 1894 S Quarter in BOSMERE Volume 04A Page 800

so very likely her parents

Marriages Dec 1887
GARNHAM Martha Bosmere 4a 1421
READ George Bosmere 4a 1421

and unsurprisingly she went by her middle name :-)

1901 census in Needham Market

George Read 45
Martha Read 39
James Read 12
Frederick Read 10
> Rose Read 6 born Needham Market
Florence Read 4
George Read 11/12

in 1911

Name: Rose Read
Age in 1911: 17
Estimated Birth Year: 1894
Relation to Head: Servant
Gender: Female
Birth Place: Needham, Suffolk, England
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England
Street Address: 55 Collingwood Avenue, Muswell Hill N
Marital Status: Single
Occupation: General Servant Domestic
Registration district: Edmonton

this might be a good bet for her marriage, at nearly 21, using Thursday as her middle name

Marriages Jun 1915
Read Rose T Smith Stow, S. 4a 2486
Smith Frederick P Read Stow S. 4a 2486

and her remarriage

Marriages Jun 1920

Smith Rose T Markwell Stow 4a 2450

JoonieCloonie Report 4 May 2017 01:00

her death

Name: Rose T Markwell
Birth Date: abt 1895
Date of Registration: Mar 1968
Age at Death: 73
Registration district: Gipping
Inferred County: Suffolk
Volume: 4b
Page: 1278

I wonder whether Frederick was killed in WWI ... but I don't see an F Smith at the CWGC site with wife Rose named, to match.

Her second husband's death

Name: Thomas J Markwell
Birth Date: abt 1885
Date of Registration: Jun 1959
Age at Death: 74
Registration district: Gipping
Inferred County: Suffolk
Volume: 4b
Page: 719

I can't identify any children of either marriage, especially given how common her first husband's surname was.

Two other people at this site have Thursday Read in their trees. Do you know them?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 4 May 2017 12:42

There's a closed record with them in 1939 -

Markevell Household Stowmarket U.D., Suffolk, England

Thomas Markevell 1884
Rose Markevell is also on this record
1 more person who is officially closed

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 4 May 2017 12:52

There were four Smith / Read children born in Suffolk between 1915 and 1920, three in Mutford district and one in Woodbridge reg district.

Niether of those districts covers Stowmarket, Gipping, Needham, or Bosmere, so can't say definitely if any of the children are Thursday's.

EDIT:

There was a Markwell / Read birth in Ipswich in 1934 - maybe relevant ??
You can look it up on FreeBMD.

That child married in Deben, Suffolk in 1955.
And remarried in 1972, again in Deben.

Two possible children of the first marriage, born in Plymouth in 1958 and 1961.

JoonieCloonie Report 4 May 2017 14:53

My stick-to-it-iveness failed me on that 1939 register result :-)

There was a Mr Smith + Ms Read marriage in Ipswich in 1906 ... and you simply would not believe the number of Smith+Read marriages and births generally.

1900-1915 there were 10 Mr Smith + Ms Read marriages in Suffolk besides Frederick & Rose.

In 1934 Rose would have been 40, could have been a surprise first child.

But a Ms Read + Mr Markwell marriage in Woodbridge in 1931 might account for that birth.

Many thanks to you all, I am not used to getting so much help and so quickly. I have tried contacting several members over the last year or so requesting info from their trees but getting no reply I am at present rather overcome.

Once again many thanks. Jenny

Jenny

There are many members who no longer get messages ........

They may be dead, or incapacitated, or they may not have notified GR f a change in email address.

GR does not delete trees unless a member has been banned from the site for some reason, only members OR someone knowing their ID and password can do that.

Also, it is very important that you explain why you want information from a member, ie why you think there might be a connection between you. Many members, including myself, do not respond to a message that says "I need to see your tree", "May I see your tree", "Please open your tree", without any further explanation.

Have you checked your sent messages to see if your message has been opened??

If the is green envelope to the left of the contact's name, then the message has not been seen.

If there is no envelope, the message has been opened.
