Haven't time to check it now as I have to go out but there is a 12 year old Elizabeth Morrison with grandparents James and Mary Morrison in 1911. In 1901 she is a granddaughter with the Lawless family.

Nellie- what are the facts that you are certain about?

Are you certain that your husband's Grandad married Hannah O'Hagan?

If you are certain of this then it appears that you have the wrong date of birth for William and the wrong parents.

Do you know when and where William and Hannah died?

Nellie123

Nellie123 Report 17 Jul 2016 15:12

to be honest i don,t really have any facts when i first tried looking for william according to some of my little notes i had him born in 1882 then for some reason i have changed it to 1880 ,i remember my mother in law saying granny Hannah was only 4 feet tall but when she wanted one of her sons they dropped what they were doing and went ,i have no idea where william and Hannah died i just assumed it was Ireland my husbands father came over to England about 1957 to look for work then his wife and family joined him in 1959 and they lived in Yorkshire im sorry i don,t know much about the family but it show,s we should have asked more when they were alive Nellie

If your William was married to Hannah O'Hagan they are in the 1911 Census in Belfast, as you find,William's parents James Morrison and Mary McManus lived in 13 Mayfair Street in 1911 census. The other family of James and Agnes McAULEY
will not be yours as their son William was still single by 1911.

children of James Morrison and Mary McManus

Jane 14 Kent Street June 1880

*WILLIAM 16 Kent Street 14 May 1882 take no notice of exact day month as Birth baptism and reg dates can all be slightly different, a Catholic may go by Baptism date rather than Birth Date.

James and Margaret Morrison 7 Gardiner Street 16 June 1884
Mary Jane Gardiner Street May 1887
David James 35 Stanhope ST June 1891
Elizabeth Mar 1894
Hanna 1875
Charles born in Scotland according to census of 1911.

The marriages in 1903 William Morrison I have matched the other people and the only couple left are William Morrison and Ellen Pitt, there are no records on Rootsireland for this marriage or children to this couple.

Maureen The only Ellen Pitt I can find 1901 is living in Crimea Street with sister and Bro in law Rbt. Heany she is 27 which if it was her marrying Wm J Morrison would make her a good few years older plus she is Pres.

This would be Mary Morrison (wife of James) 1901

Hi Eringobragh

I did see the 1901 census for Mary and family, I cant locate the child Patrick birth 1900c also Mary is shown as 40yrs yet aged 60 in 1911 I do know the census can be "out" but 20yrs is a lot.

Its unusual for no marriage to show on Roots unless its been miscribed. I was wondering if the child Patrick was a child of Marys son William or even Charles as he was shown as widower.

We have done well to unravel the family this far.

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 17 Jul 2016 20:22

Well I thought the same as you re Mary's age given eldest daughter Hannah was 25 I am thinking Mary was nearer 50 than 40 mind she could have been in her 40's when she had Patrick...Charles is not married on the Barrack Returns.

Patrick's birth was registered as John Patrick- his service record confirms it's him living at 27 Mayfair Street, Belfast- parents James and Mary:

Now we know that William was born and married as just William (no John), I'm thinking the 1903 marriage is unlikely to be his first marriage?

This maybe coincidence but when William marries Hannah in 1906 both give their address as 70 Ardilea Street. According to this army record for an unmarried William Morrison (signed up April 1898), his address is 101 Ardilea street. It doesn't give any next of kin, but does show he deserted a couple of times before rejoining in 1901-1906

Probably useless snippets, but just in case:

Ardilea Street -
In 1880 a Joseph Morrison (occupation - sorter) lived at 113.
In 1890, 1901, 1907, 1908, 1918, there were no Morrisons in the street.
In 1910, there's a George Morrison , labourer, at no 37.

In 1908, there was a Mary Hagen in no 70 (could this be a relation of Hannah O'Hagan?). That's one of the addresses in William & Hannah's marriage record as posted by Maureen on page 1.

In 1907, at 27 Mayfair Street, which is the other address given in that marriage record, there's a Hannah Morrison, and at 29, there's a William Morrison, labourer
In 1908, Hannah Morrison is at no 27.
In 1910, Hanna Morrison is at no 25.
In 1918, she's back at no 27.
In 1924, she's not in Mayfair Street.

In 1910, 26 Parkview, where William and Hannah were in 1911, is vacant.
In 1918, there's a William Morrison, labourer, at no 27, and a George Morrison, labourer, at no 20.

ArgyllGran Report 18 Jul 2016 11:55

In 1910, 13 Mayfair Street (mentioned in AQ's post at 06:39 above), was vacant, so the Morrison family couldn't have been there long before the 1911 census.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Jul 2016 12:07

Re the 1901 posted by Eringobragh yesterday at 19:11, showing Morrisons at 37 Glenpark Street

when the 1901 street directory was compiled, there was a G Morrison, labourer, at no 33, but there was a P Mulholland at no 37.

Just to confirm that the post 18/07/12.28 by AustinQ re James Morrison would in fact be James Morrison father of Wm. He was still alive at that time .

James Morrison applied for a Military pension (1922) for son David and also on behalf of Hannah David's sister, address was 27 Mayfair St.

I can let you know the circumstances of his death if you believe this family is your husband's.
