It's "DNA Day", in the USA anyway I guess, to commemorate 'the day in 1953 when a paper detailing the structure of DNA was published in Nature magazine. It also recognizes the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003.'

Prices are in USD. Examples:

* Family Finder -- 79 (reg 99)
... (autosomal) can identify cousins on both sides of your family, whether you are male or female, so could provide clues to paternity, for instance, or just find others who are related and tracing roots.

* Y67 -- 199 (about £140) (reg 268 (about £190))
... for males only (or your male relation if you are female) ... traces the male line (father's father's father ...) back and can find fellow descendants of a common male ancestor
(Y37 is not fine-tuned enough for meaningful matches, Y67 is the place to start and then refine as may be useful)

* transfer autosomal results from Ancestry or 23andMe (details at FTDNA site)
... this will get you more chances of matches, in FTDNA's large database, and also access to projects and people with expertise to help interpret results and matches


If you have a serious interest in DNA for genealogy, or a problem that could possibly be solved through DNA (remembering that this will only happen if someone who is a match has tested, or tests one day), these are the tests that are most useful, and this is the company that provides the most information and support.
