I have a ggg grandfather (John Lain) who appears to have married a Sarah Turner twice within a few weeks in 1818, once in HIngham, Norfolk, and once in Wymondham, Norfolk. |

Often the proclamation of banns is recorded as a marriage. Banns can be read in 2 different parishes (those of the bride and groom). If your dates are only a few weeks apart, it is likely that one of these entries is just banns, and that this is the same couple. |

I have this on my family tree as well, never thought it could be banns. |

Oh, thank you! That sounds entirely possible! Yes, one is 27th September 1818 and the other the 11th October 1818. |

I just checked the images of Norfolk Parish Registers on Family Search. I cannot see the marriage, but I did find the banns at Wymondham:- |

Oh thank you! That is very helpful indeed. I couldn't find the parish records. Now I have another puzzle, because one of the witnesses to the marriage is Ann Buck and Buck is another family name, but I don't have any Anns! |
