Thank you all. I will order Herbert's birth cert in a min. I'm also going to go through all the information you have given me. My nan said Eliza definitely had a daughter Rose and a son Henry/ Harry so I definitely think you've found the right Eliza. Not finding a Denny marrying a Douch really threw me off course. I think my nan has got it round the wrong way and Eliza did get remarried, but to Herbert's dad! He didn't die in the war. I'm not asking my nan anymore! ;-)

I wonder if these are related as same area as Herbert 1891

I already did Rose, and nothing ... looks like they are records of him (or someone with his name) enlisting before his marriage and they are badly damaged. Unless someone can find a later record?

Hi Nicola, just catching up have been out all day.

I think the first thing you need to do is order g-grandad Herbert's birth certificate to confim whether we've connected to the right family! This may all be a load of nonsense if the certificate names a different father!

Hopefully the certificate may also give the address they were living when he was born - which could be checked out - his birth was fairly near census night.

And Sylvia, don't know if you noticed but in the years it was the full name (H A R Douch) was recorded there was no Herbert Alfred - It's gotta be the same guy!

So they lived in Islington so the 1936 death I posted looks to be him

Re Herbert supposedly died in WW1 theres NO record on the CWGC site of Herbert being a WW1 casualty

Theres no record of Eliza Douch remarrying after WW1
