We had a chap at work who divorced after the kids had grown up and married a younger model. |

a cousin of mine divorced her husband and then they rekindled their relationship and married again a few years later |

Surely though you can only marry once legally ? Even if another marriage is done in another faith then it would be a church/ synagogue marriage but not recorded again for a legal marriage. |

I found a newspaper report for the wedding of my 3xg grandparents which stated that the couple had been previously married in the Catholic church. |

Thenthey may have married quickly the first time round with very few relatives and no big ceremony. |

If either were in the armed services in 1941 (which seems quite possible), then there was a requirement that the service person should obtain permission from their commanding officer. Failure to do so wouldn't invalidate the marr, but difficulties could be created abt getting the spouse eligioble for widows pensions, housing etc., so it wasn't uncommon for someone wed without permission to later obtain this somewhat |

Had either one of them been married previously? Just wondering if there might have been a problem with the first marriage for some reason, spouse assumed deceased but wasn't, that sort of thing? |

I have come across a couple who married in the last quarter of 1937 in London and again in the last quarter of 1941 in Birmingham. |
