Potterbill has replied by PM - PB, it really would be best if you posted your responses on the thread, not by private message. Use the 'Add your reply' box at the end of the thread
You say you are happy with the death entry as parents names tie up with your knowledge, but don't believe he was married.
If you were to purchase his DC, then his maritial status, as known by the informant, will be given. Just because we can't find a marriage, it doesn't mean that one didn't happen!

Sorry I'm relatively new to posting - what does BTW mean?
My information discounts the possibility of George marrying Gerte A.E Anderson as his fathers name was George Anderson, of Brechin Scotland. The 1878 census is accurate shows George aged 12 yrs.
From all the documents that I have read there has never been a suggestion of George having a wife.
Another source that I looked at was Wills & Testaments lodged with Scottish courts with a neg. result. The data base only went to 1925 Would it be possible to search the Australian Will & Testament if that is possible.

How about purchasing the DC to see if he was married? We all seem to think he was.
Australian DC will give the names of spouses, even if divorced or deceased, and the names of any children.

Not sure how you'd find Australian Wills and Probate - hopefully someone can advise.
BTW = By the way PM = Personal message

Potterbill, I posted the link to the page of the Argus Melbourne dated Sat 11 Jun 1921, but I don't think you could have read the announcement
You need to pull down the page to the start of the: MARRIAGES.
The 1st announcement alphabetically is: ANDERSON-TAYLOR
On 23 Mar 1921 at St Luke's, South Melbourne by Rev Ross Hewton. GEORGE WATSON ANDERSON, son of the late George Anderson of Brechin, Scotland, to GERTRUDE ALICE ETHEL. Daughter of the late Frederick and Mrs Alice Taylor of 139 Cecil Street, South Melbourne
I would also do as Detective suggests and order a copy of the 1924 death certificate

I found the Wills & Probate records at
Victorian Wills, Probate and Administration Records 1841-2007 Includes an index and digitised records.
- See more at: http://prov.vic.gov.au/provguide-23#sthash.YDN2TSDx.dpuf
Unfortunately no record found. But as he had a brother a practicing solicitor in Scotland that may be where his estate was dealt with. Unfortunately the Scottish records are closed from 1924 - the year George died.

Using his full name and her maiden name, there is one exact match for the marriage, you'll find it here
http://www.bdm.vic.gov.au/home/family+history/search+your+family+history/
And this is his wife to be
Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980
Name:Gertrude Alice Ethel Taylor
Gender:Female
Electoral Year:1919
State:Victoria
District: Melbourne Ports <<Address 139 Cecil Street
Subdistrict: Clarendon
Edit: The above appears on the 1924 ER....confusing!
