The only way you can find your exact birth date is to buy your birth certificate.

There literally is no way for you to find such information online ............... it is too recent.

We can often see marriages and baptisms online for certain select areas of England .............. Manchester, some areas of London, West Yorkshire, etc ................... but they are older records.

Hi i need my actual day of birth, i.e 28th/ 29th i know i am registered in 1974 but i was born in 1973. But there has alwaays been confusion to the day. Am finding the FreeBMD website a little over whelming at the moment. Thankyou for all the information.

GB - it's not a question of needing my own d.o.b., but when I try out a site that's new to me, I often search for stuff that I know abt just to get used to the site, and the sort of info it'll give me.


The only sure way to get a d.o.b. is to buy the b.cert. The easiest way is to use the FreeBMF infowhich provides the GRO ref info and order it thru the GRO:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

You could also order it from the local office that now holds the register - e.g., Tower Hamlets now holds the Bethnal Green rego's (I think), but the GRO is usually easier.

You might come across a d.o.b. in a related record - it appears in the GRO index for deaths from 1969q2 on, and might appear in a parish rego of baptisms. Since the GRO index records date of registration, not d.o.b., one normally wouldn't even know which quarter the birth was in - one has 6 w to rego a birth, so a Dec birth could easily be rego'ed in the Macrh quarter of the following year - a Feb 1918 birth might also be found if her dad was a WW1 soldier and his record survived (70% were destroyed by fire in WW2) - dependents were listed in case a pension needed paying.

FreeBMD aims to transcribe the printed GRO index, which ended in 1983q4. However, the transcriptions aren't complete yet - in fact no rego from 1970q1 on is completed, but 55% from the 1960s areessentially completed. The earlier incomplete rego's are:
