General observation:
I'm now thinking that the later photograph I have, from my mid-1900 Platt relatives, of Robert James and who I thought was his first wife, Jennie, might probably be of James and Mildred, nee Heath, his second wife. Their buttonhole and corsage might suggest they've just been married themselves that day! They would probably be married in a civil ceremony, if they have such things in Canada, or the United States. I've been trying to compare the earlier photo of Jennie with the later one. It's a difficult 'call' ! I know James wore very light-cream trousers when he came over to us in England in the late 1940s, early 1950s, that he's wearing in the later picture, but seems also to be wearing spats! which I thought went out in the later 1920s. It intrigues me that when he came over to the UK to see his earlier family he might only have been married to Mildred for a very short time, or even married after that visit to us. I don't remember him mentioning Mildred to us, or to my mother, another Jennie!
I know nobody can help me with these questions, but it helps to clarify one's thoughts whilst writing them down!

Forgive my ignorance, but who, or what, is 'mgnv' ?
Who do I have to thank for all these links?
And, finally, are they all related to the movements/relationships of James Platt?
A puzzled Horrace! :-\

Thanks again Reggie.
I wrote that line ' tongue in cheek ' so to speak, as a bit of light banter after MarieCeleste had found me yet another surprising development.
But I know what you mean, and will take your advice when I come to alter the tree.
Thanks again,
Horrace :-)

More advice, I'm afraid...............
You can't alter a woman's maiden name..............what you have to do is add her first husband to your tree
Just C&P the records of the marriages to the 'notes' on her record

Blimey MarieCeleste!
You're damn good at discovering all these things!
So now I'll have to alter my tree from Heath to Cox as her name at marriage to James!
I see Cox himself was also a widower on marrying Mildred !

Hello MarieCeleste,
Thank you for this latest information about Mildred Heath and her family. I'd already put her into our GR tree, but with question marks everywhere, many of which are answered by your latest contribution!
It's a bit disappointing that the deaths in Canada aren't readily available on-line, due to their stance about personal security/privacy. We could have discovered Jennie's death and solved that particular problem!

Hello MarieCeleste,
Many thanks for my great-uncle Thomas Platt's Parish Baptism Record.
I remember him clearly: not very different from his brother Jim, our main subject here, in that he too was small, like all the Platt's. He was an insurance agent by profession, and a good, kind, family man.
I used to go to Sunday School at Halton Road Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Runcorn.
And later on, when my maternal granddad, Joseph Findlow, lived with us actually in Halton Road until about 1950, we used to go together to the evening service there. My grandma, Isabella Dorcas, had died in November, 1947, of a series of strokes. She had, after all, borne 10 children in all; the very first one, Esther, dying within a few months of birth. Another child, Amy, died in early infancy too, leaving my aunt Alice as the eldest surviving sibling, dying aged 88 in 1988. She always used to say she 'went with the years' age-wise!
I've got to get all this material together now and attempt to put the new information you have all contributed to into my GR tree!
What did you make of the photographs Marie? Do you see any 'material evidence' within their images? Not surprisingly, my mother, Jennie, had his colouring: namely blue eyes, brown hair and 'clear' complexion, as James's Attestation Papers declare; and I also have the same colour features, but considerably taller stature! Any ideas about the shop photo?
Best wishes,
Horrace :-)

Hi Reggie,
I'll keep your sound advice in mind about looking at freebmd as a first step.
Sorry for the delay in answering. Gardening in the summer sunshine had to be a priority I'm afraid, so I haven't been on-line for a short while. No intention of ignoring your good advice!
Horrace.

Horrace, I've emailed you the files (some too large to attach on a GR message). Yes, I'd like to see the photos, it's good to put faces to the names!
You said initially that Thomas was born 1884, he was showing as 2 year old on the 1891 and I'm sure this is his baptism:

Hello MarieCeleste,
Thank you for Robert James Platt's baptism information.
This afternoon I've been sorting through hundreds of our old family photographs to find great-uncle Jim's photos, and have found four of them, all taken in Canada.
I've scanned them into my Picasa3 album and I'm wondering whether there's a way to send them to you through Genes R. And failing that, by e-mail
One is of the three of them, with Robert James in uniform, and Jennie wearing a Maple Leaf brooch on what also looks like an army uniform skirt and blouse, with little James in his sailor suit. A note on the back in an unknown hand says: "Baby, Jennie, and Jim. Baby is only 20 months, what do you think of him and his pants?" There is a later note underneath that by the Platt family over here, which says that they owned the business until Jennie died in early 1950.
There's another one of little James, in a larger sailor suit ! at about 5/6 years old. No 'useful' comments on the back of this one.
The 3rd one is of Robert James and Jennie, nee Harding (Both UK nationals by birth) It looks as though it could be on their ( or someone else's) wedding day, as they're both wearing flowers: a buttonhole and a corsage.
The final photo is of a shop-front. It's looks a strange business, hard to identify, with the exception of the advertisement of "Sweet Caporal Cigarettes" very evident! There appears to be a lot of framed photographs of people in the window, neatly arranged and in portrait style, with a large Maple Leaf showing as a centrepiece. Could this be James's handy-work as a window-dresser? It could be their own business of course, which great-uncle Jim seemed to suggest at the time of his visit in around 1949/50, which was of course around the time of Jennie's death, as we have just noted.
I'd like you to see them MarieCeleste!
Best wishes,
Horrace :-)

Hi Reggie,
Constructive comments like yours are always welcome with me R.
Yes, as you advise, I'll have to 'get into' looking in freebmd. I never seem to consider that source unless I'm desperate, or 'stuck' on a point.
