I have a question - something a bit odd - can anyone confirm please whether I had picked up the wrong William Edwards (1857/1858 ) previously at Bale Street.
I had William Edwards (Engine Fitter) in 1881 at 34 Bale Street, Mile End Old Town with wife Clara 1858 and child Susan A M 1881. But Chris Ho post at 09.25 today (5 July 2013) has William with his sister’s family (Cornish) at 36 Ireton Street. He is shown as single, stone mason.
Now here is my problem what is William up to? I thought I just needed to amend the William and Clara out of my file because it was the wrong William. But when I look at the 1891 (50 Morville Street, Bow), there is William (a Mason) with his widower father John the Carpenter – and wife Clara. No child Susan though.
I’ve found:
William Edwards to Clara Ayres – in 1878 (London City) William Edwards to Clara Emma Caley – in 1881, (Mile End) obviously after the Census.
Very odd.........
EDIT: Think I posted too quickly. I have just extended the William and Clara search and come up with a Poplar marriage in March 1889 – William Edwards to a Clara Cornish – that seems reasonable! So out goes the Bale Street Edwards Family after all.

Hello Astra and Chris
I saw some of these posts just before I went out this morning - and thought Cobbs? Am back online briefly and just looked in more detail at the posts. Thank you so much - for finding the 1851, and the 'missing' children on later census' (I thought they might have died!)
Also thank you for the marriage (earlier than I thought) in 1848 of John Edwards - so she was Mary Ann Cobb (no jokes about her father Mr Cobb being a stable keeper and (cob) horses) ! Seems their witnesses were her siblings. The 'John Jones Edwards' element connects as it could be what he used on the 1881 which is transcribed James - so am happy it could be either, but sure it is them.
Plus thank you for all the additional info on baptisms and marriages. Now I have lots to work on. I really appreciate all your posts, have to admit I tried to find some of this information but nothing seemed to turn up! Must be doing something wrong!

Hello Ladies
I'm back - yes that is the 1871 that I have for them. I have them in 1871 at Totty Street, Bethnal Green. Then I think in 1881 at 4 Auckland Road - just John - but he seems to be shown as James with son George. Louisa is a servant nearby in Bromley (by Bow) . The son William is in Mile End in 1881 with his new family, then in 1891 John (EDIT and son George) is with William and his family. No idea where all the others are yet - with the exception of Louisa who in 1891 is married and (although she didn't know it) producing offspring and becoming my great great grandmother.
I cannot find them before 1881, and need to try again for the children from 1891. I expect Charlotte (1854) and Emily (1856) could be married or in service in 1891, as could Mary A.
I found a potential birth for Louisa today in Q3 1858. It looks as if I am not looking for a Charlotte (that was a guess as the first daughter on 1881 was Charlotte and my lot like to recycle their names), compounded by the Charlotte death where I expected to find it. I don't think I have much option other than to get Louisa's birth cert at some point.
Thanks for looking J-A

If you think he did marry a Charlotte then the death cert maybe her.
Certs for married ladies will say wife or widow of and the husbands name.
If you cant find any other info you may have to take a punt on that death cert

Hi Shirley~.
For some reason I do not have the 1861 - probably couldn't find it before. I may just have to get the birth cert of one of the children, but was hoping for a bit of seek and find without getting the cert yet to find out the wife (and mother) of the family on the 1871
Thank you

Thanks Margee - that messes up my investigations! I don't have them on 1861 - but I have John on 1871 (alone) - with 7 children - first born in 1851, last born in 1862. The first daughter (2nd child) was called Charlotte, then final child born in 1862.
I took a guess at a marriage before 1851 - and have found a Charlotte Edwards death in 1862. It all seemed to connect to a John/Charlotte marriage, - oh well will try to find them on 1861
Thank you for looking
