Hi everyone, last week's suggestions round up (14th June) only had one suggestion, I decided to wait one more week and post the round up this Friday 21st. I'll also be looking at doing the round ups monthly as there hasn't been many suggestions. Natasha

I don't feel that suggestions are taken seriously - I could use some choice words when reading some of the replies - some replies are generic from a script.
Some are just rediculous and patronising as if there aren't any members with IT developement skills.
Some are just plain wrong .....................errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I'm seen where it sometimes states it is a good idea and it will be passed on but nothing happens.
If you look at the source code, some suggestions are so easy to change
I've become very cynical of late.
:-(

Hi NanaSue,
I’m sorry to hear you don’t think the suggestions are being taken seriously. I can assure you the replies are not from a script, I read every suggestion and answer it individually. I also don’t believe any of the responses are ‘ridiculous’. I do pass suggestions on to the rest of the team but they can’t always be implemented immediately. The team has recently been working very hard on improving the search facility on Genes and releasing more records which will, and is, greatly benefiting our members.

Hi Renes,
I had missed this one, so thank you for pointing it out. I have sent a PM to Leslie.
I do try to respond to posts or send PM's to members, however sometimes I may miss something. Please do feel free to PM me if you think there's something I may have missed.

Hi Natasha
many of us have become very cynical about GR's responses to suggestions, just as NanaSue has said.
I have been cynical about responses from "the team" for a number of years now, yet I still persevere, hoping things will improve.
Despite what you have said in your message to her ...........
---------- I’m sorry to hear you don’t think the suggestions are being taken seriously. I can assure you the replies are not from a script, I read every suggestion and answer it individually. The team has recently been working very hard on improving the search facility on Genes and releasing more records which will, and is, greatly benefiting our members. -----------
.......... many of us have found over the years that suggestions are made, and the response is often the same ............................
.............. patronising, give us a placebo ("the team is looking at it") ..................... and seemingly the suggestion is then tossed into the waste basket, because nothing happens
It's like many of the responses we get to complaints about things that are wrong on site ................. for example, the constant Error message when opening Boards, threads, submitting messages, etc etc.
This has been ongoing for a couple of years, yet the response is almost always the same ......................... it must be OUR browser, and so we have to change OUR chosen browser to another one.
If it not "change your browser", the second alternate response to most complaints is "we cannot replicate the problem"
The third response is "send us a screen shot so we can see what you are seeing".
There are seemingly about 3 standard responses for "the team" to send out to complaints .................... and I've seen them all many times over the last 9 years!
I have got to the point where I state in any complaint that I make that I do not want to see a standard computer-generated response .......... and I state that very forcefully, and much more rudely than I would usually address anyone.
Is it any wonder that we have become cynical?

Hi Sylvia,
Thank you for your feedback. I will pass your comments on to the Head of Customer Support.
I will update the suggestions round up thread when I know if the suggestion will be implemented or if we have decided that it won’t be. Although we are grateful for all suggestions, we cannot promise to implement all of them, but I will make an effort to keep everyone on the boards informed on the progress and status of each one.

While we all realise that you can´t implement all the suggestions, it would be nice if we could be given some idea of which ones are being considered for implementation & which have been rejected. Otherwise people are going to keep making suggestions which have already been considered.

In a similar vein to Sylvia's complaint, I have tried to report broken links on the site using the site facility for doing so.
First I got the standard reply about having problems, what were you doing and what browser etc.
I replied explaining again and then received another standard reply about timeouts.
I was reminded about a short story I read years ago about communicating with computers and was surprised to find it on the web at: http://www.dave.rainey.net/calendars/dystopias/process3.html
The broken links are reached by:
HELP Complete FAQ Listing Hot Matches and Searching Searching for names OR Searching for living relatives
Then a guide is supposed to be accesd from a link called "here".

I can't believe in this day and age for something like that to happen to a person just by buying a book.
No more books for me by the Internet or post ,I shall just go to the bookstore in future...... Scary stuff :-|

I have asked this before from Estelle ...she said she would pass it on but can we please have the save button on the tree page put to the top of the page .
I use XP IE8 I have to put Compatibility on for the boards and off for my tree in order to see the save button at the bottom of the page ,this is very annoying . Also very hard to see numbers for other persons trees to search.
Susan Edit I am not changing my Browser,I should not have to.

I had a third reply today, not a standard one, but I'm still not convinced they know what a broken link is.
