Please do NOT tell me what to write or how to write

That's intimidation, and denial of my right to free speech.

If you don't want to read it ............. don't

that could be your loss, not mine

BUT DO NOT TELL ME WHAT TO DO.

comprenez?

CupCakes Report 17 Jul 2013 07:40

Precis please - too long :-|

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Jul 2013 04:51

actually, CupCakes,

it isn't the person who

"changed the wording of their post which may slightly change the meaning "

that is the problem

it is the person who COMPLETELY changes the meaning of a post, even of an OP, by doing a complete edit (which means deleting most of the first post and replacing with an updated, changed version), or changes a one line post into a ten line post, again completely changing the meaning.

I think many people have seen that happen

That is what makes the other posters look stupid.

In this case, it is the psychological problem of the person who does that kind of editing, and does it regularly. A problem in which they believe that no-one else will notice the change

I'm not sure if they get a kick out of doing it, and out of making others look stupid ................. probably they do get some sort of enjoyment!

Cupcakes, may I ask if it doesn't really matter then why does it perturb you so?

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 16 Jul 2013 21:13

This is all so terribly serious - if anybody feels a fool because somebody changed the wording of their post which may slightly change the meaning - that's their psychological problem not the posters.

Does it really matter - I don't think so <3 <3

Thank you very much for taking the "quote function" to the team.

It is found on many other sites, and is very useful.

CupCakes Report 16 Jul 2013 13:00

I can see the usefulness of quoting some short text when commenting on a post so a reader has the gist of what the poster is talking about

What I hate are those using it to prove a point or to deliberately embarrass/target an individual which some members publically do.

if you agree that the Quote facility is useful for one thing, then you have to lump it when people also use it to quote passages or parts of posts from people posting either on another page of a thread, or who are known for editing their posts to change the meaning.

Changing the meaning of a post by editing also makes fun of other posters, embarrasses them, and makes them look like fools.

We all hate that ................... and so quoting the passage to which we are responding avoids the embarrassment and looking like a fool or an idiot

Now that Natasha has picked up on the 'Quote' button maybe she could now do something about the 'Edit' button.

Could we have something done so the substance of a post cannot be changed - maybe all edits could be more of a postscript or addendum.

Reggie, The answer is "Goading"

In order to Provoke or annoy in the hope of getting a adverse reaction

I'm sorry I cannot oblige,

I try to reply with a well thought out measured responses as apposed to knee jerk reactions and illegible rants posted whilst in a rage

Master C & P of the boards - keep going you are on a roll here - your appreciation of English is obviously more pedantic than mine - best leave it to one who feels he knows best - I'm bowing out gracefully %26lt%3B3u loads %3B-%29

So why haven't you?

Complete and utter waste of time asking questions on this thread as they just get ignored as usual

Hi Roy - I will be including the suggestion of the 'quote function' on my next round-up.
Thanks

Lessons I don't need - I'm fully up to speed - ta anyway. One can't win a debate with the Master C & P of the boards so there is no need to even try. ;-) ;-)

I think WiseChild has posted the real reason to the C&P strong objections earlier

wisechild 15 Jul 2013 16:20

"Problem with putting something in writing is that you canĀ“t deny it at a later date."

Yes exactly, especially when someone C&P back to you, even more annoying when the poster has gone back and edited the post to change the meaning! !!!

Sorry, but I'm a little confused. What kind of questions?

I only asked Roy if he agreed that some other sites have better facilities for C & P than does GR.

Do I take it that you struggle with it CupCakes? If so, I would be happy to go through it with you. I had to be taught and I don't mind helping others.

Porkie_Pie Report 16 Jul 2013 11:51

AS I said before C&P has absolutely nothing to do with point scoring

It is quoting what has already been said.

As you appear to be constantly claiming it is point scoring then maybe you could advise where I can collect my points and what value they have plus what I can exchange my points for,

Example, do I get a set amount of air miles or can I put them towards my next new car
