What happened to Paul's thread about Ancestry's free access this Bank Holiday Weekend?

Just tried to post on it again and it was whooshed away!

What was so wrong with any of the postings that someone had to request review!!!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 28 Mar 2013 10:34

It might be because there was slight irritation that Ancestry (and GR) tend to freeze when free access is allowed.

There is something in the T&C about not criticising other sites.

It's the flaming Board Police taking it upon themselves to impose T&C which don't harm anyone. :-P

I only read the thread 15 minutes ago and it hadn't been RR'd.

I wonder if someone from GR deleted the thread.

When I added to it a couple of posts had been RR'd but not the whole thread!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 28 Mar 2013 10:42

There were several 'holes' in it, icluding the OP - must have been after you read it.

So if the OP RR is upheld, the whole thread goes :-(

Porkie_Pie Report 28 Mar 2013 10:44

Far to many threads reported and also removed,

I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth my time posting anything for fear that it will either get reported or that it may be cause for complaint from some members

No wonder the community boards have become a place to avoid for lots of members

Hope it wasn't cos of me...I did put I wished GR would give free weekend too.And when someone put that I shouldn't pay for credits,I said I had to have some subscription,even the cheapest PAYG credits,in order to contact other members,re trees or getting help...don't think I was malicious tho.Hope the post is put up again.x

Either I read the thread before posts were RR'd or I'm going blind as I didn't see
any holes.

Elaine, there was nothing wrong with your post so it can't have been you.

By the way,can anyone please tell me,what is RR and OP?

Elaine

Elaine Report 28 Mar 2013 10:57

RR = Report.
It used to be called Request Review, hence many of us use the abbreviation RR

OP = Opening post. ( or Opening Poster)
Christina (Lancashire) started this thread, so her first post is the OP

Holes = where something has been reported. Instead of the original text, in italics is wording along the lines of 'This post has been requested for review'

Don't worry folks. I got an email from GR explaining I had broken the rules. They were quite right and I apologise.

'Please do not use the service for any business or commercial or charitable
purpose, or to promote any alternative commercial service.'

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 28 Mar 2013 11:21

That may be so, but I bet they hadn't noticed themselves!

Yes I agree. Some little busybody, with nothing better to do, just had to bring it to their attention. :-P

Paul,I didn't see anything wrong with what you wrote.

There should be a "like" button on each post,same as on FB,so we can let the person know we appreciated what they had written,even tho we had nothing more to add.

I am a "standard member".I can do everything that you want to do without buying credits.

DazedConfused Report 28 Mar 2013 12:02

I posted to that thread and have had a threatening email from Genes stating that I had breached their guidelines.

I believe the whole thread had now gone as some of the content was probably not 'bigging up' the whole concept of buying credits :-)

Christina(Lancashire) Report 28 Mar 2013 12:41

Does anyone know if the free access will include all records?

I can't find any info for it.

Elaine

Elaine Report 28 Mar 2013 13:00

Thelma..what does it cost to be a standard member? When I first joined I think I was a standard member,but after letting membership lapse,when I looked to do same again,it seemed a lot more exp. Now,I might be wrong about that.

Credits are a more exp way,I know,especially if there are a few entries with right name and year..you have to look at em all!

When I went on the "free" access,I couldn't take part in discussions,or send messages to members about their family tree.

I am v confused as to what I actually get on free access or on credits. It's prob written down somewhere,can someone point me in the right direction please?
